Nothing to see here. Geno was going in as the number 1 before today. Gailey wasn't going to say he expects geno to lose the job. But they got the headline they needed to get the clicks going and jet nation buzzing. Way to swallow the hook everyone
Billboard time. Hard to say what is going on in Chan's head. Confidence boost? Mute the media? Either way, the pressure is on Geno. We know how that goes...
Hopefully it's just not true and some kind of media or motivation strategy. Because as someone else on here said, the idea that this POS can automatically be a starting QB without even having to fight for his job is a fucking joke.
that depends, is he getting garbage time TDs that just make his #s look better or are these big plays helping us win? Fitz is what he is, a quality backup and nothing more. you can't win w/ Fitz, that is TBD for Geno. they were 6-6 w/ Fitz as their starter last year, the backup went 3-1. they lost one game w/o Fitz starting- to Indy 17-10 in a game they were in the entire way. W/ Fitz against Indy they were losing 24-0 before losing 33-21. Maybe they would have made the playoffs if Fitz didn't play at all?
With the weapons the jets have put together on offense, I would give Fitz a chance and see what he can do? All the jets need at this point is above average QB play, that is something I don't believe they will get from Geno. JMO
I'd like to be starting a passer that can complete over 60% for 16 games...just sayin. If they could have gotten Marky Mark there, we might have actually progressed beyond the AFCCG. Heck...If we could have had playoff Sanchez for the first 16 games of any season..a home game might have happened.
Fitz completes over 60%, and tosses more TD's than INT's Smith does neither. If that makes Fitz a backup, Geno's numbers should make him unemployed.
Rex is long gone so I'm at a loss to explain this. It makes no f'n sense to coddle a terrible QB like this. With Brady out the first four weeks of the season (as of now) I hope it doesn't come back to cost the Jets a shot at the division title.
Fitz doesn't win, he can have all the meaningless fantasy #s he wants he just doesn't win. was 6-6 last year, backups 3-1. has never won more than 6 games in a season w/ some talented teams.
our defenses have been mediocre at best the last 2 years. Houston was 7th in PA last year. NYJ was 24th last year, 19th 2 years ago.
i'm not a Fitzpatrick guy, but he's never played with a talented team. Last year was probably the most he's ever played with and that was with a team that was 2-14 the year before he got there... that's saying something that that team is the most talented one he played on
Colts were one of the more inconsistent teams in the league last year. If Fitz starts against the Bengals, I think they have a chance to win that game and ultimately get to 10-6. he had the best chemistry with Hopkins as well.
Fitzpatrick is limited physically. big time. All things considered its better for this team if Geno Smith is the starter (without shitting all over himself again- of course)...but I'd like to see him earn it and I guess I am with you in the fact that I don't like hearing these comments from the OC ,regardless of my feelings on Fitzpatrick
Jets were 11th in total defense in 13, 6th last year. yet, in 2013 we scored 18 ppg, and in 14 17. Hmmmm...Nope..not Geno. Crap he single handedly gave away 3 games last year.
Why GOD? Why can't we let these guys battle it out in camp before declaring Mr. Pick Six to be the chosen one? New coaches, same as the old coaches.
Buffalo was very talent as was Houston last year. I made a mistake, he started both colts game but Savage finished the 2nd one where they had a chance. and if one of the backups starts against NYG maybe they have a better chance to win? Fitz was 6-6, backups 3-1. hard to blame the backups.
who cares about yds allowed? in points allowed we sucked. Geno gave away many games but so did our D. Our D was not good the last 2 years. Houston's was certainly better last year.
Fitz absolutely is limited physically, but I think he does a better job getting the ball to his receivers - Hopkins was really good last yr for the Texans. Geno as much as we (especially myself) bash him - he is extremely durable. With the state of the offensive line, it maybe better to just throw Geno out there see if he breaks out. I think that leash is so short, a 3INT game would bench him for good. Tough choice for Chan, but I am not mad at him for making that decision.
