Gotta say Thomas Jones too. Can't say he was under appreciated, but since he did nothing after leaving here, it justified their decision and perhaps seemed that way. Much like Shonn Greene who really turned out to be a disappointment after the start he had.
People bashed the living hell out of him for having 1 TD his first year. That 2nd yr w/ Favre though, that all changed.
I really feel like if we used Ivory as much as we used TJ or Greene he could be better.. but that's just me. Ivory's line wasn't nearly as good as TJ and Greene but he still dishes out punishment and gets a shit load of yards after contact every year.
The numbers agree. TJ averaged around 310 attempts for 1300 yards while Ivory has averaged 190 for 825 yards. That is without any real outlier season, both were/are consistent.
I disagree... I don't think you are giving Thomas Jones enough credit for his vision and patience to find the holes, and burst once he did. Ivory doesn't have that all. If he had an offensive line like Jones did he'd just ram himself head first into the back of the OL, then drive head first into the guy the OL is blocking before eventually taking himself down with everyone. He'd get 3 or 4 yards a carry all year before he's broken and can't do that anymore by midseason and be irrelevant the rest of the year. Basically, the same season he's always had.
Sheldon Richardson. 4 carries, 2 TDs Give him the ball 30 times a game, there's 90 points right there.
it has to be Thomas Jones. Shonn Greene was nice for a while, and Leon was explosive. But as an overall RB over a period of time, Thomas Jones and its not even close. Thomas used to drive me crazy with falling down if being touched by a finger. BUT it was his running style. He was patient, found the hole, and took the yards decisively. He was a tremendous player for us.
While yes if Ivory had the line Jones did he would put up some great plays, it's not fair to suggest he would have been BETTER than TJ. TJ was a better and more consistent overall running back. Ivory has more big play ability. It would be closer to what we saw from Ivory in NO in a limited sample.
Fair enough. I'm not saying Ivory is really better, but that Jones, while prob more consistent / versatile than Ivory was a big product of the O-line
