I know that I read that refs were lax on checking on air pressure. It just was something that officials didn't think much about. Certainly not the big deal it is now. And obviously something the Patriots were aware of. I think it was probably Belichick who discovered this because he looks for stuff like this.
Nobody gets props for that turd of a report that Wells put out. It's so obviously a joke. They can't even prove anything happened.

I wasn't surprised by the 4 games, that will probably get reduced to two. I wasn't surprised by the fine, but I was surprised by the amount. I wasn't surprised by the loss of draft picks, though in all honesty I thought at worst they'd lose a 2nd or 3rd, never dreamed they'd lose a first and 4th.
Do you know anything about Ted Wells? He has nothing to do with the NFL, no axe to grind with the Pats, and one of the most respected and distinguished attorneys in the world. But go ahead and bash his 236 thoroughly researched independent report because it didn't exonerate Tommy Boy. Did you read the report? After reading it, it was clear to me that Brady was guilty as hell. Add up the evidence of the McNally and Jastremski texts regarding ball deflation from October into January atBrady's request ( demand), the unexplainable visit to the bathroom with the footballs, the underinflation of the balls compared to the Colts balls, the complete lack of cooperation in the investigation by Brady, the lack of cooperation by the Pats, the debunking by an independent organization of the "weather" explanation, and the Pats previous history of cheating and disregarding of NFL rules and there you have it. The arrogance and poor sportsmanship of the Pats and Brady finally came back at them and payback is a bitch. Running up the scores over and over against teams late in games, leaving Brady in games late into the 4th quarter with huge leads and throwing to pad his stats, Brady running off the field after losses and not shaking hands or congratulating opponents like every other NFL player does, whiny in press conferences after losses that the Pats were awful while never ever giving credit to the opponent that just beat you, not wearing a stitch of pink during breast cancer awareness month. The team, it's coach, it's QB, and the owner all had this coming. And they got off easy. Any claim that the Pats and Brady were punished too severely is absurd. The report intimates that the intentional under inflation of the footballs by the Pats was going on for far more than the Colts game and many have been going on all season, or even for years, since it was Brady who wanted and lobbied for teams to control the inflation level of their own balls back in 2006. Hmmm .
By the way, watching the NFL Network tonight is like watching a testimonial to Brady and the Pats. You would think Brady died instead of getting a 4 game slap on the wrist. It is awful one sided reporting. You know who got totally screwed in retrospect? The Saints.

On page 113 of the Wells report, after a description of the scientific Ideal Gas Law, Wells says that the Patriots footballs should have measured between 11.32 psi and 11.52 psi. The average of all 22 readings was 11.30 psi … two-one-hundredths lower what the Ideal Gas Law would have allowed for balls that started the day at the Patriots’ level of 12.5 psi. The fix is in, enjoy it - it's for you.
