The Petty hype is quite surprising. I'm wondering where it was prior to the draft.

This is obvious, but a lot of 2016 hinges on this season.

Cardale Jones is kind of a question mark.

Hackenberg is a bit of an enigma. Great freshman year, lost some talent around him year 2, and struggled. He could easily play himself back into the first round this year.

Jared Goff is my guy. I think he'll be among the top few guys taken.

Next year could easily be better than this year, but its not a lock all these guys work out.

I saw some reports that he could go as early as the second round. Even heard a couple guys saying that teams could trade into the end of the first for him. Obviously that didnt happen, but there was certainly a moderate amount of hype around him.

Never liked Petty, I will root for him to succeed, but I do not plan on him becoming the guy.

Looking forward to the college football season to watch the big 4. Cook, Jones, Goff, Hackenberg.

First of all, Charlie is just joking around.

Second, I think the hype started Friday morning after it dawned on the Mariota and Winston crews that we were SOL for our dreams and aspirations and realized we needed to go in another direction. And that hype reached a deafening crescendo when it was announced "with the 103rd pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select..."

Third, I think most of the MM and Winston crew were not interested in any of the other QBs but secretly had a plan B in mind--some liked Grayson, some liked Mannion, some liked Hundley, some like Petty and some were hoping for a trade for Mett or Glennon or whomever.

From my perspective, the only other QB I was willing to take a flyer on was Petty because of his arm talent and his "moxie".

Two years ago I liked what I saw out of Mannion, especially the San Diego State and Cal games that opened my eyes and even when he was overmatched by Oregon he looked respectable. Also fell in love with Brandin Cooks back then. But last year I was extremely underwhelmed by him and I was no longer supportive. Weak arm, slow delivery, unathletic. Very smart and accurate on shorter throws but not an NFL arm to compete. He could be a very good game managing backup. Not what I'm looking for.

Grayson I've never liked--I don't get his hype. He reminds me of a smaller, weaker armed Kellen Clemmens. NOT Jimmy Garapolo.

Petty on the other hand has always intrigued me. And last year I went back and forth on him--I saw him play some great games and some not so great games. Mid year--I think it was right after the WVU game I made a post along the lines of "no thanks" but as I watched him throughout the year, I really liked what I saw. He's got a lightening quick release, a pro-ready arm, usually very accurate (in a spread offense so TIFWIW) , athletically mobile but not a runner, tough as nails, a big body and a serious leader. A guy with upside that I'd gamble on.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Most people had Petty as the third most talented QB all along. What I would like to know is where all the hype for Hundley came from.

I am in love with Cook. I would absolutely love him next year, but that means we probably sucked again.

If he's at the 32nd pick, I'm all for the Jets taking him ;-)

I'm not holding my breath on any of those guys. Hopefully several will emerge as legitimate QB prospects, but at this point I think Cardale Jones is the most talented, although he probably has the least experience. Unless he starts and blows the lid off, imo he should stay in school through the 2016 season then enter the draft. That collegiate experience is invaluable. I'm with Stokes. I don't want no stinking game-managing QB. I want a legitimate QB prospect. He doesn't have to be a Luck level prospect but at least a Mariota level prospect with three years of very productive play, great accuracy, good arm, great football IQ and mobile.

You need to keep an eye out for Dobbs this year.

OK, thanks. What school does he play for? Never mind. I see that someone posted UT.

i view that class as looking pretty weak, worse then geno's class. im sure one will get drafted in the first round, but only cause there is always a qb despearate team

    +1.

    Prescott and Hack are terrible.

I'm going to watch Cook and Goff a lot this year.

Keep in mind that list is from months ago. The current list is a bit different.

    Cook
    Jones
    Goff
    Hackenberg

Will be the potential first rounders, Hackenberg may declare or stay depending if he makes the strides everyone expects of him or not. Your Kiels will stay back for a chance at a higher pick, while your Jeremy Johnsons will stay back to show off their stuff in the few years they have.

Your Boykins, Kesslers will also be available from rounds 2-4.

Goff is going to ball this year. Count on it. His biggest knock will be his weight, I guarantee it. Expect monster numbers.

says the guy who wouldn't draft a RB, if you knew he would rush for 1000 yards for 15 seasons straight in the first round.

this class is 10x the class Geno Smith was in. Cook, Goff, and Hackenberg far better then Geno Smith IMO.

I would LOVE to see Geno Smith play @ Penn State w/ that woeful offense last yr w/ no line and no weapons. Oh and that cold weather? Wouldn't stand a chance.

I'm giving Hackenberg one more year. Just turned 20, he's still a kid.

Prescott I dont even think is an NFL backup. I dont get any kind of hype surrounding him.

Yeah, I'll give Hack another look but I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

    Prescott I'll agree--he looks like a destitute man's Cam.
