I have not changed my tune once, everything is consistent. One links directly to the other. Let me ask you this if you really believe Cleveland really made a sincere offer that Jacksonville was actually even remotely considering. Clevelands offer was so good that it just took the Jets lowest remaining pick to persuade Jacksonville not to make the deal, Literally the Jets couldn't have offered less without offering nothing. I mean that most sincerely. Cleveland may have been sniffing around, but it's clear they never made any sort of real offer that jacksonville was even considering taking. Jacksonville played poker with the Jets and got them to bid against themselves, it happens. The cost was negligible. But here's the thing Strokes old boy, EVEN if the Browns made a very good offer and the Jags for some unkown reason said 'oh hell, just give us a 7th' we're still talking about a day 3 QB. You know what day 3 QB's are? 99% likely to be nothing but a backup.
Don't see the logic. The only thing you can judge the dude on is the tape he's got and that's who they played.
The Browns were like twelve spots away, and since they didn't have a 5th rounder the most they could have realistically offered this year was a 6th rounder (barring them going nuts and giving up both their fourths). A sixth probably wasn't enough for Jacksonville to go that far back in the 4th round so they decided just to take a 7th for free and basically still get the guy they wanted. But it's a big difference comparing Jacksonville trading down with us one spot away with trading down with Cleveland twelve spots away. They'd have to get a lot more from Cleveland.
Which is exactly the point. The Browns never made a worthwhile offer for the Jags to even consider moving down that far, so much so that a 7th round pick from the jets would not have any impact of the Jags decision to move down or not. If the Browns had made an offer worth moving down that far the pot would have been too sweet for a 7th round pick from the Jets to have blocked or countered it. Without a 5th round pick any serious offer from the Browns would have had to include both their fourths, perhaps getting a 5th or 6th in return as well. At that point the 7th rounder from the jets is going to make zero difference. If on the other hand the Browns had just offered their 4th and 6th, and maybe 7th, it wouldn't have been enough to move down that far and therefore no deal was imminent. It's poker, sometimes you fold when you shouldn't, and sometimes you call when you should have folded. It happens.
You don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Fantasize all you want that Cleveland didn't make an offer and the Jets got snookered. Think of all the excuses you want that you don't want to believe it's true. That's what was reported by NFL sources. Not some loser on TGG. I'll believe NFL sources. Doesn't matter how the player turns out, it's what actually happened that we're disputing. _
68 wants to believe the Jets got snookered (based on nothing BTW) so he can criticize the trade up (where we gave up nothing). Is it so hard to believe an NFL insider report that Cleveland tried to move up for Petty but we beat them to him? It's not that big of a deal but 68 will concoct dozens of scenarios why it can't be the case. _
Methlothin TX to the Big Apple? Thank You God he is not Winston. Kid is boy next door can marry your daughter material. Met a couple of people from from TX in my life and they were A1 very down to earth. Has patience and high frustration tolerance considering the time he had to wait behind RG Petty very tough so running with ball maybe an option if necessary. Will he hurdle tacklers? Arm speaks for itself. Hate to say it but he reminds me of a raw Tom Brady out to prove something edge to him. What's not to like?
There hasn't been a legitimate QB competition since Sanchez went down against the Giants (and, even then, it was questionable as to how "competitive" that competition was). Very much looking forward to what Petty has to bring. Hopefully, he'll acclimate to pro reads and dropping back faster than Smith. And, just maybe, this might light a fire under Smith's ass.
So what, they shouldn't have given up the seventh rounder then? Bfd, it's a seventh-rounder. If one team was for sure trying to trade up who's to say they were the only one?
It's quite possible Jax had a guy on their board that they wanted and didn't want to risk losing him by swapping down to Clevekands pick. Is it that hard to believe the report that Cleveland tried to move up to get Petty? Freaking Jet fans holy crap. Yeah, we got faked out by Jax and they totally fucked us out of a useless 7th rounder lol. _
I agree. When I saw that clip and seen the stadium he played in High School, first I thought "Friday Night Lights" then I thought this kid will not be flustered by playing at MetLife. At all.
Gailey is the perfect OC for this guy to learn from. I would not be at all surprised if he isn't ready to take away the job next year.
Not being a dick, but honestly, what's the difference between "satisfactory" and "passable"? I can see arguments being made for this being semantically the same thing, but OTOH I can see this being interpreted as being slightly different. I'm just wondering if you two are really saying the same thing?
Yup. And actually that we got lied to by Jax and Ian Rappaport was wrong and there never was any trade up offer by Cleveland for Petty. It's this weird thing with some Jet "fans". We draft a kid that looks like he may have some upside. And then it appears that not only did we like him, someone ELSE liked him and tried to jump over us for him. But we played it smart and moved up one spot instead for a measly 7th rounder. But some Jet fans can't accept that we (i) got someone with maybe some upside and (ii) this FO was aggressive protecting the player we wanted. They'd rather (i) dump on the player as not worthy of a 4th rounder and a measly 7th and (ii) dump on the FO for being played by Jax (with no evidence that there never were any Cleveland tradeup offers). I don't get it. Nothing we do is good or smart or savvy in some fans eyes. SMH. _
SOunds like this was a good pick by the Jets. Interesting to see what they do with Simms, whether they let him compete or whether the competition is only between Fitz and Smith with Petty kept as the developmental project. Can't rule out signing a vet now, either, but imo that's probably unlikely.
