There have been almost 10 running back to take him and we haven't even started the sixth round yet. Are you saying every single one of those teams tossed away a draft pick?

The fact is there are a lot of good running backs in this draft, probably the best draft for running backs in a decade if not more. We have no running backs under contract for next year and we currently don't have any speed and no open field threat out of our backfield. It may not look like I need on the surface, but it absolutely was.

    yes.

they are still just runningbacks. it could be a deep draft for holder and long snappers but im not taking them on day 1 or 2 either. who cares if we dont have a HB under contract for next year. sign a free agent, grab someone off another teams practice squad, sign an undrafted free agent... etc. other then finding a guy who doesnt fumble you can patch together whoever at HB. this isnt the 1950s. HB are basically irrelevant

It's not about what you did NOT get. It's about what you did get. Talent added:

    L. Williams DL (rotational monster)
    D. Smith WR (deep threat)
    L. Maudlin OLB (Calvin Pace's heir and solid pass rusher)
    D. Posey WR (WR competition. 3 year vet, former 3rd round pick underutilized in HOU due to regime change)
    B. Petty (Qb competition. 2nd best qb in my opinion, but 3rd by many. I don't see why Mariota is rated over this kid except for his speed. No rush, can sit back and learn.)
    J. Harrison OL - OG competition. Elite talent, poor attitude. A project worth the risk, and if anyone can light a fire under this kid, its Bowles and competing with that D line every day.)

Personally, I think we have added a ton of depth, and really filled out our roster. Devin Smith, Mauldin, & Williams all should have immediate impact. Sure, I would have loved to add a top RB, another top OL, etc., but honestly, we now have at least a top 3 offense, and tons of weapons on offense. Hopefully we can get QB play that limits turnovers and adds the downfield dimension to open up the run game, but time will tell.

So far, Magic Mike has done pretty good. No crazy trade ups. Went BPA, then went for need. Smart to take a two track approach when you have so many holes to fill.

I'm basing the grade off of their college career and potential. If you want me to give a grade after 2-3 years, then please message me. I also love how some fans/analysts can be Debbie Downer's.

Was pissed at first with the defense pick, yet again in the first round, but the rest of the draft has been nice with the exception of not selecting Green Beckham.
    Draft grade so far: B

A+ for me. Don't think you could have a better draft. Go Macc.

You forgot to include Brandon Marshall, the 5th round pick from Chicago Bears.

I love the idea of drafting a special teams player and a developmental WR if we use a 5th-7th rounder on him. Spending a 2nd rounder on a guy that can only run one route is quite a risk. I hope he develops and obviously Mac sees potential but he is more raw than Stephen Hill was coming out of college and likely his only role on offense will be the same as Hill to run a go route. Hopefully he develops but he looks like a project that will take quite a bit of time to make an impact outside special teams. Using a 2nd round pick on such a unpolished developmental player seems like quite a risk especially when there was so much talent available.

No Ken O'Briens, no Gholstons or Kyle Wilson's.
    Happy with the entire draft.

If there had been a Ken O'brien the Jets drafted I'd give this draft an A++

This was a A performance by the new GM.
Definitely best job by any general manager in a long time.

No w let's see how he and his staff does sign free agents.
I always that's an area where Idzik and Tannenbaum really floundered.

Free agency ended about a month ago. Or are you talking about next year?

I hear you and I wanted DGB as well. Obviously MM didn't want him for some reason. Could it be the off the field issues or the fact that we sort of now have two receivers just like him? Maybe. Also Jaelen Strong wasn't drafted by any team until much later, so I don't think many teams thought he was a 2nd round talent.

My grade is the best class grade in a long time, well since Mangold and D-Brick were signed.

Leonard Williams, DL Round 1, 6th pick - Not only the BPA, but best player in the draft, love the pick!!!!
Devin Smith, WR Round 2, 5th pick - Live near Ohio State and not that excited by this pick, but he should be better than our last few 2nd round receiver we drafted.
Lorenzo Mauldin, DE Round 3, 18th pick - Another DE we will try to make into a OLB, but I love his story and a very high character guy!
Bryce Petty, QB Round 4, 4th pick - Wanted Mannion, but anyone to beat out Geno is a blessing! Hopefully Fitz plays this year and Petty Starts next year, no Geno ever again!
Jarvis Harrison, G Round 5, 16th pick - Finally an OL! Hopefully he can be a solid depth guy or more.
Deon Simon, DL Round 7, 6th pick - Would rather had drafted a OT that could also play center, but what to you expect in the 7th round?
Zac Stacy RB (Trade) - A solid depth runner and if he can get back to his 2013 form or better, he could be a long tern answer at RB.

All said we could have four or five guys from this draft starting next season and three contributing big this year, so I give it a B+ for now. If three of them start next year I'll bump to an A, and if we can get four starter I'll bump it to an A+! I just want a true QB competition, so far it seems everyone is saying Geno is the anointed starter and for a guy to be the worst QB in the NFL for two consecutive years and still be the starter shows how bad our QB situation must be. On any other team Geno would be the 2nd or 3rd string QB.

Give me Austin Davis from the Rams who is their #2 or #3 right now, he completed 180 of 284 for 63.4% last year for 2,001 yards. With 12 TDs and only 9 Ints, those are winning stats for this team and with our defense. I would also love Glennon who has done nothing but win and can't catch a break, yet both Glennon and Davis have no shot to start for their teams, yet we may have to suffer with Smith.

Comparing Smith to Hill is absurd.

Hill came from a program where they ran the ball primarily.

Smith comes fro a program that runs a pro style offense, and is far more polished than you are giving him credit for.

I saw every OSU game this season, and Smith is not an unpolished developmental player...

Hill came out with 1200 total yards in college....Smith has over 2500..

Smiths low catch total is more a reflection of the fact that OSU had myriad options for delivering the ball.

But the bottom line is, when his number WAS called...he produced. In a huge way.

Look at the Wisconson game, the Sugar bowl....

And look at States relaince on Zeke Elliot...
