Jet fans bitch all of the time about not getting good players in the draft, now that we have a potential all-pro player they want to trade him away - perfect Jet fan logic to be honest.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 2m2 minutes ago Earlier, @AdamSchefter reported at least 2 teams have inquired about Mo Wilkerson. I'm told the Jets are not looking to trade him. #nyj for what it's worth ^^^^^^^^^^^^
worth nothing...actually more of a confirmation than denial, as they say "not looking" to trade as opposed to "we are not trading" or something similarly strong. Actually adds some smoke that they responded, actually.
I hate the idea of trading Mo but the only way I can see it happening is if he wants close to JJ Watt $. If he does then we are better off trading him now while he has peak value. I still like Forte and the 8 for him and a late rounder but we will see. I imagine something would get done before the draft if that were the case so contracts can get worked out etc.
Franchise QB trumps all. How many playoff games have we made w/ Mo? 0. Better yet how many game changing plays has he made? There are elite level D-linemen coming out in every single draft. In fact the Jets have 2 possibly 3(Coples) already on the roster not including Mo. If you are just adamantly opposed to all of the QBs in this draft..you are entitled to that opinion..but when it comes to 1st round QBs..I subscribe to Brian Billick's philosophy: If the QB has the skills or ceiling to be a franchise player...and there are no obvious red flags...there is never any fault in selecting a QB. Let the chips fall where they may. This team is desperate for a QB..absolutely desperate. Why not take a shot by sacrificing some at a position of strength?
Rex has had Mo do all types of things on defense, he's been making plays for others ... perhaps it's time to change his specific role on defense allow him to go after the QB? Maybe I am over-thinking that ... I think it will depend on what front we do going forward that's for sure. Mo, back in Temple (prior to his sr yr) played a lot of 3 tech and was successful. He also played the 5 technique. Mo has done so much for us so far, I wonder how the morale in the locker room would be if you traded Mo away. The quiet leader on defense?
Ya, trade the homegrown kid and cornerstone of the franchise because we may not be able to afford him later. Stupid logic. How about pay the Mo fugga and prove that we are loyal to our players who excel on and off the field.
First let me say, I agree w/ what you are saying here. I understand we are desperate for a QB. I truly believe timing is everything. In regards to your bold, there are reasons of concern - Winston easily has off the field red flags, Mariota has on the field red flags. I agree we need a franchise QB, but there are no sure QBs in this draft. These guys are potentially franchise QBs, they aren't sure things by any means - imagine trading Wilk for one of those guys and they don't pan out, not only do you get fucked by having a bust @ QB, but you lost a great defensive lineman in the process. Jet fans will look back on that and scream outrage! All games are won in the trenches as well, if we had a QB with a brain, maybe we have a playoff win with Mo being our best defensive player. I wish we had Mo back when we were going to AFCCGs that is for sure. I agree let the chips may where they may, don't force trades, those are mistakes waiting to happen.
This MO is the only thing that I like coming from NE.... Get a player, use him for cheap for 4-5 years, build up his rep. Now trade him for 2-3 high picks.... and repeat.
While I prefer holding on to Wilk, we just don't know enough. What is he asking for? If he is asking for Suh or JJ money, well, no. Then we should be looking to get the most value now. I have no idea what that would be, but we do have a replacement in Coples. Probably not as valuable a player but still plenty good. People bitched a lot when we traded Abe but they stopped complaining when they saw Mangold play. If MacC can do something as good, I'm for it, assuming we would just lose Wilk to free agency in a year or two.
Anyone could bust, it's not just about Mariota, it could be about any QB available - I just used him as an example. I just don't like the idea of trading away proven elite talent for potential.
If the Jets were like, WE NEED Mariota, he's 110% our guy, trade the picks, don't trade the elite defensive prospect. We will set ourselves back. Mariota might not be ready WK1, so you are going to trout out there this season with no Wilk with the #2 pick on the bench.
I'm not rushing to trade Mo, not even close. But if the Jets don't think they are going to be able to pay the man and they don't want to franchise him, the only way I make any trade is if it includes the QB. I'm not trading him so I can get Leonard Williams and a WR. Again, this is in reaction to the "assume we're trading Mo, what do you need back" scenario. _
Because obviously we are going to sign a player of Revis' caliber to a mega deal every single offseason. Great logic.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 22m22 minutes ago Jets are not looking to trade DL Muhammad Wilkerson #nyj Story: http://nydn.us/1zkDmaP
A poster here said they would trade Mo + 6 for #2. I don't think that's a fair deal for the Jets at all, I think that's rape. Why can't get we both Mariota and Cooper / Kevin White? That should be something the Jets should strive for if the case comes where they need to actually trade Mo prior to the draft (in-case he actually wants JJ Watt money - which I do not believe for a second). I still in a sense, don't even like that trade 110%, but if we had to part - then well I would want #2 and a future pick another yr for Mo. Hell, I would even send in next year's 4th.
Mariota is a franchise QB. You can't win shit without one!! Mo is a great player but he can't carry a team on his back the way a QB can. Plus we have a stud in Coples that can slide into his natural position alongside Snacks and Rich.. I think if the Titans did it we both benefit
