Wilk for a top ten pick is not a bad deal. He is a very good but not great player. Plus there were a few indications of attitude last year. And if he wants double digits it will be very hard to sign him. It's a debate: what is his true value. If Suh raised the bar at 16, you have to say that Wilk is worth 10-12. The thing is you can't pay too many players in that stratosphere. And the Jets gave Revis his 16. On the other hand we are not paying huge money at the Qb position so the Jets could afford going deep in their pockets for two D players. As for Mariota imo he is not worth trading up for. And no way RG3 compensation which was ridiculous. The current Redskins GM who is a smart guy (and the Jets apparently wanted him) would never have made that trade.
Nothing wrong with keeping all avenues open. I wouldnt trade him unless it was a top of the line draft pick.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Teams are reaching out to the Jets, not the other way around. That said, if we could keep our 6th and get additional assets, it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. I just think proven commodities are worth WAY more than unproven draft picks, so it would take a lot for me to accept a trade at this point. And the team that trades for him would want a long-term deal as pseudo-part of the trade (like Revis, remember). I'm guessing nothing comes out of this unless we really want Mariota or Winston and are willing to lose a stud like Wilkerson for the possibility of a franchise Qb. I would just hate to lose the 6th pick too. Our 6th overall + Wilkerson is worth way more than the 1st overall pick in my opinion.
You also must consider the possibility that the Jets started this rumor because nobody has called them and they do want to trade him.
Hang on what would they be offering? My worst case scenario of drafting Leonard Williams and trading Wilkerson for a 1st could be something that is possible?
I would prefer not to trade Mo Wilk; but if we came out of this draft with Leonard Williams and a stud wide receiver, that would certainly temper my disappointment.
None of us sitting here have any idea what is going on. Like I said earlier maybe we started the rumor just to see what the result would be. Maybe people have called and we said no thanks. Maybe we have come to the conclusion that we can't sign him for what we want and it's better to dump him now while he has some value rather than let him walk next year. It's just stupid to say "this sucks" or he's our best player or anything else without knowing what maccagnan knows.
Yeah- we can't be looking to come out of this with a cheaper, less proven commodity at the same position and a WR. If we're losing Wilk, it had better be for the QB. _
if we trade Mo and move up they better be 1000% sure about the QB they want, they better be sure he is a can't miss(Barring injury of course).
So why can't we afford both Mo and Richardson? Did Jets pay someone huge $$ recently? Certain CB perhaps...
