Feet to the fire if they can't handle adversity early who is to stay they can later. That notion you can destroy a QB before he is ready is overblown you cannot teach confidence..and even some cases arrogance(and even steeper). Big moments are required from a QB every game. From 1st downs to continuing drives to drain the clock, to coming back from being down, Coming back from a turnover ..... Get our guy; get him going; see what we have
I haven't quite given up on Geno. We have seen him lead us on multiple game winning drives and know he has the big play capability. Conversely, he has been the primary reason for a handful of losses. That despicable int filled BUF game rings a bell. Also, there is no denying his questionable ball control under pressure. That being said, things seem to slow down for Qbs in year 3. Here's to hoping that Geno "gets it" in 15'. If we see the same boneheaded mistakes in the first 2 games the plug needs to be pulled, likely for good.
I would have him start day 1 with a limited play book. Chan is a QB friendly OC he would help him tremendously! Plus one thing Mariota excels at is taking care of the ball and that's exactly what Bowles needs and wants from his QB!
Based on his college track record I would not say that he excelled at ball security. Mariota fumbled 27 times in his college career.
Yes but in the pros he will not run as much in any pro system. I look at Int's and he had 15 in 3 years! That not good it's excellent.
That many fumbles for a QB that hinges a lot of his game on running ability is not good. Can't help but compare apples to apples, Geno had 21 ints in 3 & 1/2 years.
Actually not a lot.. An average of 9 fumbles is not bad considering his TDs. INT/Fumbles - 41 TDs - 136 He almost has 100 touchdowns more that turnovers. Also I'm not sure all his fumbles were turnovers... So those 27 fumbles I'm not too worried about.
I'm sure most of us would be concerned if he averaged 9 fumbles a year. But hey, if the kid can score 45 TDs to go along with it, sign me up.
Fumbles schmumbles. He's not going to run as much in the NFL. The turnover stat I care about for QBs is INTs. He had FOURTEEN in nearly 1200 attempts over 3 seasons. He averaged less than 5 INTs a season. Fewer games. Yup. College. For sure. Less than 5 INTs per season. _
Let me put it this way. There is no way I am taking Mariotta in the first round when I can get Connor Halliday in round seven.
Unless he pulls a Russell Wilson I'm not starting him in his first year. Mariota is a project QB that's going to need time to develop.
Mariota isn't going to be there at 6. I don't want to see them trade up to 2 and give up a lot for it... I'd take Petty or Mannion in a later round. Going to be interesting. Anyone but Geno.
Geno Smith: 1416 attempts in his 3 full starting seasons Less than 7 int per season See why some are skeptical?
I did watch them both. Im a huge CFB fan and always stay up for the P12 games. I saw a lot of the same things in the two. They both benefited greatly from the offensive scheme and talent around them. If Mariota goes to the Titans I expect him to have similar success to what Geno has had here thus far.
I think most of the fans are more concerned with GeNO starting for our team. Very few of the so called experts see him being a viable QB for our team. My personal opinion is get rid of the garbage. It has stunk up the house too many times.
