Even in a 4-3, Snacks would have value, and he's still cheap. He may not offer much in the way of pressuring QBs, or at least didn't under Rex, but that could change with Bowles and his schemes. IMO one doesn't try to fix one hole by creating another, and hoping to find another NT in the draft who is as good at stopping the run as Snacks might prove difficult if not impossible. He's been a very solid player for us. If they had kept Ellis, I could have seen Snacks perhaps being traded or not re-signed, but not with Ellis gone and that leaving only Barnes at NT. I also think that Bowles wants to continue to mix and match fronts to gain match up advantages and can't see their making a move that would limit them.
Snacks isn't starting in a 4-3 defense if you have both Wilkerson and Richardson. I agree, you don't want to create holes - but you can cover one major hole up and that's a pretty important position in QB. I do agree Snacks is a solid player for us - I don't really see him staying with us long-term especially if he wants lots of cash. I wouldn't trade up at all - I am fine with standing pat at 6 or trading down. Just going through scenarios. I really want to keep as many of our picks as possible.
If we are going to draft him we will have to move up to #4 or #2. Let's hope Dick LeBeau loves Williams... I think moving up 2 spots with the Raiders is doable and won't cost the farm.. They can still grab a good receiver at #6.. I think it won't cost more than a 3rd to swap picks with Oakland.
So according to Albert Breer and Manish, the Jets brought Mariota in for a visit right after his workout in Eugene and tried to keep it under wraps. The fact that they brought him in right after seeing him is somewhat telling, but to me the fact that they tried to keep it a secret is way more important. I think this tells me there's a lot of interest here.
I'd rather we never found out about the secret meeting because now you can almost guarantee that some team with trade ahead of us to draft him
How's this scenario: Mariota makes it to 6. Jets trade with Cleveland for 12 and 19 Jets draft: Todd Gurley and Randy Gregory. Then use the 2nd rounder on a wr like Dorsett or DGB.
Mother fucker. So I've been to dinner with Schefter in the past and he's usually spot on. He helped us out at the David Wright Mets fantasy football draft last year. He pulls no punches but he's not always right. I couldn't make a dinner last night but my biz partner had him at a dinner and he said there was no way the Jets were getting Mariota. Wasn't happening. Was taking calls all night and when Whisenhut called he had to excuse himself from the dinner. I should have been there. What an idiot. We're doing a FF draft with him in a few months so I can ask him then after it's all over but I just hope he isn't right. Crushed my dreams. _
No I am not ok. He's like my spiritual savior. It's hurtful internet bullies like you that make this site so difficult for me. It makes me sad. You will take great pleasure in my misery when I post a video of me going apoplectic when we pass on MM for a Guard or punter. Bastids all of you. _
The wiz could also be filling Schefters head with shit to drive up the price of the pick. Think about it.. He's calling him to tell him he wants Mariota now?? LOL the guy is in the media and the wiz isn't tipping his hand to him. If it's not Rapsheat it's all lies!! Especially right before the draft!!
Don't settle, take the whole shabam. Eagles Get Mariota Browns Get Bradford 2nd... 2016 1st PHI Jets Get 1.12 1.19 1.20 6.20
Here's the deal. Trading up for Mariota will cost at least 3 first rounders due to the competition with other teams to trade to #2. There's no way its worth it and that's the only way they get Mariota. Pray we don't get Mariota, because if Mariota is a Jet by the end of Day 1, that means the Jets seriously mortgaged the future.
This is my dream scenario. Trade with Browns two first rounders and draft Gurley and Randy that's an absolute sweep of good players coming in. If the Jets can somehow get Gurley, Randy Gregory, and Dorial-Green-Beckham, that probably has the potential to be the Jets best draft in history if the players pan out.
