You know what, even though Idzik cost us a chance at a franchise QB because of his insecurity, incompetence and unwarranted arrogance, at least he was hoisted by his own petard and is now gone. Doesn't make up for passing on a franchise QB but at least we got the silver lining. _
Simms got his shot in 2013 against Miami and looked like shit. He got his shot in 2014 when Geno got benched and Vick got hurt against the Chiefs. In both instances he did jack shit to earn a serious look. When you're an undrafted free agent you have to make the most out of your opportunities. Vick as bad as he was was still better than Simms, and Geno had a ton invested in him so it makes sense to give Geno as many chances as possible and plus he's better than Simms anyway.
Hey look. I don't honestly think that he's starters material. But he had a few sniffs but no real shot. When Mark gets over 60 starts and is routinely horrendous you can't tell me that a few series of downs is a shot.
It is for a guy that wouldn't have been in the league if he wasn't the son of Giants great Phil Simms.
Oh come on now. The guy impressed the coaching staff 3 years ago and with odds against him made the team. If he's only in the NFL because of his Dad then why isn't he 3rd string on the Giants.
I give him his credit for working hard but he's not anything more than a backup at best. If (when) he gets cut this year that's pretty much gonna be the end of his career.
From an article suggesting Rivers to the Jets: Here is a list of things the New York Jets do have: The best non-Seattle secondary in football. The best 3-4 defensive line in football, complete with arguably the two best non-J.J. Watt five-technique ends in the entire league. An overpaid group of linebackers that still knows how to play football sometimes. A talented offensive line whose spirit has been broking blocking for Geno Smith the past two years. Two wide receivers in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker that have proven they can play like Pro Bowlers with the right quarterback. The not-quite decaying remains of Rex Ryan’s vaunted running game (at the very least, Chris Ivory is really tough to tackle). And here’s a list of things that the New York Jets don’t have: A viable NFL quarterback Hmm … that first list is a lot longer than the second list, right? Rivers would be a complete game-changer for the Jets. He would give them the sort of in-his-prime franchise quarterback they haven’t had since … maybe ever. He would make them a viable opponent for the Patriots. He would give the Jets their sense of swagger back, a dire need with Rex Ryan in Buffalo. It would cost an arm and a leg, almost certainly starting with the No. 6 pick in the draft, but adding Rivers would be worth it. With Philip Rivers, the New York Jets could win the Super Bowl. Can't say I don't like the idea since he probably could win us a SB but the idea flies totally in the face of getting our future secured with a Fran QB. Not fair to younger Jet fans and prob not in FO game plan.
Here's the thing. You can't say the Jets sabotaged Rex and not by default say they also sabotaged Geno. I don't know what Geno will or won't be. We all knew he was going to have a hard learning curve coming from an air raid shotgun offense to a pro style offense. Not making excuses for Geno but that's the facts. If a QB the Jets believe in falls they'll draft him, if not they won't. I don't see any way they win a bidding war for the #2 pick, they just don't have the ammo without sacrificing a ton of picks that they can't afford to give up due to an already dangerously thin roster.
Yep there's that as well. IMHO if you even think about trading up for a QB and sacrificing probably multiple 1st round picks you'd better be 100% sold on that QB because if he flops you've damaged your franchise for years.
Career total 19 of 39 (48.7%) for 195 yards 1 TD and 1 INT Not really anything to write home about but I hope when they do pick up a 4th QB for TC that they give Simms another shot to show what he has and if he shows more than Smith then keep him as the 2nd or 3rd QB and send Smith packing. The dead money for Smith is $1M but for a team in the NFL they take that hit and keep the better QB.
Seen enough of GeNO and not enough of Simms. He very well may suck but we really don't know what he has. With GeNO we know he sucks. JMO
