bad footwork, not tall enough. He seems like he has a better character then Geno but I am worried he will be a INT machine
Dree Brees, Montana, Steve Young, Russell Wilson are shorter than this guy. Not tall enough. Really? Just say you don't like the dude
Didn't Tahj Boyd look good at Clemson. Watkins sure didn't suffer. My point...there are no guarantees. ..all these kids are talented. Jets as an organization has to develop a criteria for their draft picks and go from there.
almost forgot I made this thread…. at this point I wouldn't take him any higher than the 3rd, even then its kind of stretch (the only reason to take him then is the fact that he might not make it out of the top 100 picks). there should be far better prospects we can take in the 2nd round, specifically RB's and OT's. the third, well what's left of a deeper class of offensive weapons and how sure is Mac that Hundley can be an answer? the fourth and theres no risk, why not. I stand by the idea that he's got starters potential and that he's a project. we get him late, no regrets, but as of now, ehhhh... he'll probably be drafted by the rams or bears in the 2nd, somebody with a lower assurance of keeping their starter next year that can afford to wait a year.
I really think he's a better prospect than Mariota. ... having said that though, I'm still not sure he's good enough to take in the 2nd round. Other than Winston there are really no good QB prospects in this draft imo. (and even Winston's a little on the shaky side) This is one of the worst QB drafts in years.
I'm not going to say it's a great class, but it's not the worst in years. Let's not forget 2013. This draft just doesn't have the QB buzz worthy QBs (passed the big 2) that some other years had, but I've seen more professional criticism of "system" QBs this year than any year I can remember. You can YouTube the same "pro scouts" singing the praises of Geno from 2013, and they hardly mention the offense he was in. Guys such as Bucky Brooks were saying Smith could be a guy to turn a franchise around, and I saw him last week saying how Petty and Hundley carry negative aspects because of the systems they are in. Just for kicks, if Petty/Hundley were in the same draft as Geno (using their 2014 stats), they would have been rated above Geno in my opinion. Drafting is certainly one of the biggest crap shoots in sports, and that's what makes it so intriguing and fun to speculate. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Mannion get drafted A LOT earlier than many mocks are saying. If these scouts are putting more weight on the offense these guys are coming from, I wouldn't put it past a team drafting him in the 3rd round. I watched A LOT of Hundley this past month because I didn't watch many UCLA games, and I must say his physical tools might be the best in the draft. Best pure QB at this point, no. Highest potential ceiling, I would go on a limb and say yes. Without mentioning his offense, I would however be hesitant based upon his pocket presence and lack of read recognition. I don't doubt he could learn to read if he had time to sit and learn, and he can throw well on the run. But, he can't just pull the ball down and take off, and has to learn to let plays develop and buy time in the pocket. Again, with his physical attributes, I believe he could do these things over time. This FO is going to draft a QB, I'm 75% sure it's going to happen. If the top 2 don't fall to 6 (which I have a gut feeling they won't), one of these round 2-4 guys will be on the Jets. For once though, this actually might be a GREAT situation for a rookie QB to come into and SIT for a season to marinate in the offense. Having Geno and Fitzpatrick will be a good thing for a rookie.
Saying this is the worst QB class in years is plain stupid. There are two massive prospects at the top and a precipitous drop off thereafter. That's not a weak class, it's a shallow class that is very top heavy. 2013 was shit in every round. _
I just spent the last hour watching Hundley again from some different breakdown tapes. If the kid can go to a team where he can sit for a season or TWO, he could be solid starter. His offensive line sucked so bad that he hardly ever had time to even look at more than 1 receiver. Really explains all of the short passes that Mora called, the dude was constantly under duress. But man, (I forgot to mention this last time) if he doesn't learn to run smart, he's going to be annihilated in the NFL.
lol Who is "good" by your definition past the top 2? I've watched them all again and again as we move closer to draft day and it's pretty meh. They all have such holes in their games you have to be really selective to find that silver lining in any of these guys. Petty? Watch his WVU tape, and you might throw up in your mouth. I used to like him more, but the more I watch I'm just like ugh. I think I was forcing myself to like him. Grayson? I actually like his game. However, he played in a shit conference and when he played Utah he reminded a lot of Sanchez. So I went back and watched him again and he flashes some really nice game against his conference. Someone mentioned that he looked like Kellen Clemens, and that's a pretty good comparison in my opinion. Carden? Bryce Petty light. Mannion? Whom I think could be a steal late based off his 2013 tape, you can't teach size and the kid can throw some nice balls. Although his 2014 was abysmal, and his footwork breaks down under pressure in a bad way. So I'm not going to "pretend" anyone is good. Since none of these guys is a no brainer, I'm going to watch tape over and over until one of them makes some sense.
You don't have to take a QB just for the sake of it. I take petty over the rest but I'd rather get a real Player than one of the crap QBs
The team isn't wasting all this time with private workouts for the hell of it, they are going to select one of these guys. Even if it boils down to depth, one of them will be selected this year. Geno plays well, then they need a backup cause Fitz has 1 year left on his deal. If Geno plays like a turd, they are back to square 1 in 2016 with possibly no starting QB on the roster.
They're meeting with plenty of players and doing due diligence. If they select one, I hope it's petty or a developmental QB no one's mentioning. Grayson, Hundley, Mannion... None are NFL QBs to me. Just my opinion but I think Hundley is in the league for 3 years max. And I don't care what the jets are doing or not doing. They can draft Hundley, doesn't mean I have to agree that he's worth taking.
