Just a curiosity question and looking at the draft order. Is there any sense in trading down to someone like NO or SD in Rd 1, if Mariotta is still on the board at #6? Both teams seem to be within a season of a QB change and I am ok with giving Geno another season with Fitzpatrick on the roster. Do you think either any team would give up their 2nd round pick for him? Two R2 picks would be good. Is this considerable? I know the Mariotta fans (Geno haters) are auto answers, but is it an option?
Id really like us to stay where we are .If Mac hits a home run with the num 6 pick it would be huge for us.
Generally, a number 6 pick in the draft is viewed as being worth 2 first round picks (a middle first round pick and a late first round pick). Here's a chart of draft pick values, which I believe NFL teams pretty much use - http://walterfootball.com/draftchart.php. That all being said for teams that are desperate for a potential high first round QB the pick could be worth even more (maybe 2 first round picks and a 2nd or 3 rd pick). If Mariotta is still on the board and the jets aren't interested and the jets can get 2 first round picks plus additional picks I think the jets should absolutely trade down. I also agree that Geno should be given another year - he's shown some flashes and he has never had even a decent receiving core. We need to see what he can do with one.
No to giving genociDe another season. Did you not see him perform ladt year. Just you comment about makes me question your foot ball knowledge. Most people have seen enough of him to know if you have a potential qd the franchise has been looking for within reach that the world thinks highly of you take it. You don't trade down to get another Draft pick later in the draft. And just another second........If someone wants him the price needs to be higher 2 numbers is the starter because teams have gambled more for a qb. This about having a need and the means to solve it and using that means to aquire the potential QB of the franchise.
For every positive flash he has shown 2 more negative flashes. I remember the last game in Miami but do you remember the first game against Miami where he made the wrong read and through into double coverage. Or the his other perfect game against the bills where he had a perfect 0? No more chances to bad was if you have the chance to get a franchise qb you take it
After TB makes their selection of either Winston/Mariota/Williams, offers will come for at every pick until each is selected. So, if Mariota is there at 6, the Jets will likely get an offer. As noted by the posters above, typically moving up in the first requires much more in return than an additional second round pick. The 2015 Jets picks are particularly valuable (to the Jets) because, in all likelihood, the Jets will not be picking this high in the foreseeable future.
Then I would do it but not just for a chance to get somebody you might want at a specific position. Although their two 1s are probably worth a lot more than #6. At least they were when people still relied on this. http://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp
teams looking to trade up to draft Mariota are going to look at trading a head of the nyj, not with us. that is reality.
My order of preference would be: draft at 6, trade down a few spots, and at the bottom is trading up.
I guess it depends what the offer is, but I would rather it come from someone who can add a QB in addition to draft picks, such as Rams or Eagles. Foles and the #10, allows the Jets to draft Schreff or another top olineman to go with the QB. They could then spend the #37 pick on RB or WR and finally have some semblance of a top level offense. Bradford, the #20, and the Eagles 2nd rounder allows the Jets to draft to draft Melvin Gordon at #20, defense at #37 and then potentially Dorset with the Eagles 2nd rounder. The Jets are easily a playoff team under either scenario, IMO. In either event, the best case scenario is for Mariota to be there at #6, even if the Jets end up drafting him.
If Mariota is gone I would trade down in a second. I dont think Mariota is going to be a franchise QB. With all the moves we made, I dont know if we'll be picking this high up in the draft next year. I wouldnt mind if the Jets took him. Financially, 1st round picks dont kill you anymore. If Mariota sucks, it wont be super crippling. Next years QB crop is tough to judge. A lot hinges on next season, obviously. Cook and Hackenberg can both help their stock so much. Hackenberg hurt his big time this year, but he will have more talent around him. Cardale Jones is a mega talent, but does he have what it takes to play in the NFL. I am a huge fan of Jared Goff, I think he has serious potential.
Jets are NOT trading down!!! Stop this silly pipe dream! If one of the 2 QBs are on the board at 6, Jets are taking. If they are not at 6, nobody will want to trade up. And what's up with this: There are no scenarion where MM fan can also NOT hate Geno? WTF?
Lol these threads are too funny. Let's figure out some convoluted way we can trade our future franchise QB to another franchise. _
Throw in some cash or future considerations. I would absolutely draft La'ael Collins @ 12, hopefully he passes through the Giants, then look at either Gurley / Gordon / Shaq Thompson.
