Ever since he restructured his deal first in 2013 and just recently I wondered what they were up to. We all know about their credo: Cheat first and ask questions later. I admit I don't completely understand the machinations of the salary cap. I've looked over his deal on Sportac and I'm trying to figure out exactly how much he makes per year. It's overcomplicated (on purpose) because he had bonuses from his old contract before he restructured it two times. Basically this is what I'm getting from info I've read: he is getting a way below market contract. Plus the advantage he had in the past with all guaranteed money he gave up just recently: his entire deal had been totally guaranteed now it's guaranteed for injury only. If the Patriots want to cut him he doesn't get the money previously agreed upon. So why is Brady making something like (over the course of the deal) 10 or 11 mil per when he could get double that. One poster a while ago said something to the effect that because his wife is worth a couple of hundred million (she's retiring from modeling) he doesn't care about getting a full salary. The thing is that's all well and good but Kraft is a billionaire. Worth a lot more than the Bradys. Why give him a break. If you want to get rid of the money give it to charity. Funny thing is during SB week Kraft mentioned Brady ("like a son") restructuring and then a minute later insinuated that he might have cut him if he didn't agree to the deal. (some father figure). I can assure you of one thing. No union likes this kind of stuff. They usually will scream bloody murder because it keeps other salaries down. I am certain that if Sean Gilbert had been successful in his quest to be head of the NFL Players Union he would definitely have challenged it. This guy in charge now didn't say a word. So here are a few articles on this. On the original restructuring http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2...t-extension/4LIYld7tYQUB8CNXKmMaPM/story.html. An agent's opinion including him basically saying he's never seen a player give up guaranteed money http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...-know-about-tom-bradys-unique-contractAnother article about his 2015 restructuring http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story...ive-new-england-patriots-24-million-more-cash. And the Spotac breakdown of his deal and previous contract http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/tom-brady/. OK, I don't trust them. I think they are playing games with the cap and again on the borderline of being illegal if not flat out being illegal. One part I didn't quite get from Sportac was the annual amount he gets from bonuses and how in the end this adds up to about 11 mil per season. Articles state that but the Sportac breakdown doesn't show it. I don't believe that Brady would give Kraft such a sweetheart deal. I think he'll get his money in the end and illegally. My opinion.
Goose stuff here in those articles and questions. Bledsoe had a rediculous 100m contract back in the day......Brady's $$ pales. And amazingly Bill and Tom are tied at the hip and the headset. Kraft doled out bledsoes deal......BB is the GM now. Follow the money You all need to read that chapter 9...... Good analysis for the unreal unfair hometown discounts
1) Paragraphs are your friend 2) Salary cap While Kraft could afford to give Brady $50M/year, the Patriots would not be able to sign marquee players and Brady would end up like Peyton. While I am a Patriot fan, I don't doubt that Kraft and Brady have an illegal under the table deal that Kraft will continue Brady's employment well after he is done playing. Brady gets a better team around him and the financial security that he loses by removing the guarantees (in addition to the salary increases). I also think that the Patriots are prepared to trade him when his worth no longer justifies his contract and removing the guarantees helps them in doing so.
For once a semblance of truth from a NEP fan and not a blanket run of excuses, denials and alibis. I can see Kraft repaying Brady in a number of devious ways, I'm sure a lot more creative than anything we can think of: hiring him and paying him for a job in his organization after he retires (like a million a year for life). Or spreading it out to some of the Brady Bunch like his sisters and parents and wife to make it less obvious at 200k per. There is no logical reason Brady would take half pay from Kraft unless he has a side deal which is illegal and way around the salary cap. The thing with your team is always not playing by the rules on the field and off. As for the Commissioner: he's basically an employee of Kraft Enterprises, too.
There's been a war (unfortunately off the field not on) between these two franchises ever since Kraft took over the team. If you really wanted to escalate it (and we do) love to see Woody file charges on the illegality of this contract. Something the union should have done. With Roger in charge like Deflategate it would go nowhere. But it would stir things up and get Kraft pissed off. And further expose him for what they are.
She's a multi-millionaire. And it makes no sense. Why give a billionaire money from your pocket. Brady and Giselle are business people too. Nobody gives up millions like that.
320M..I could have sworn I read last year it was a billion. http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/models/gisele-bundchen-net-worth/
Anyways it's a lot of money. they are both comfortably off the rest of their lives. But (to me) when you negotiate a business transaction esp if you have a lot of money you get your best deal possible. You don't give back money or sweetheart deals esp to a guy who has billions. It was done by Brady to help the team: the thing is it looks illegal and fishy because he's agreeing to way below his market value. They continue to flaunt the rules and mostly get away with it.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit. I'm sure it happens a lot where players get jobs with the front office and maybe get paid well above what they should be...doubtful it's millions and millions but that's kind of a form of doing it. Maybe Kraft bought him an island or something, who knows.
I think if you look at his last couple of restructures, he hsn't given up anything. He turned future salary into a $30mil signing bonus so they could spread the money over the life of the contract. Every time he restructures or tweaks his contract he gets more guaranteed money. Even the little tweak this past season guaranteeing his last two years for injury only netted him an extra million this year and next. Check out what Manning has been payed over his career vs Brady and you'll find it isn't that big of a spread (And Manning got big signing $$ fromday one as a high draftpick. The idea that he's working for money under the table is laughable.
Again another denial when it's obvious he's getting way under market value. You call 24 mil a "tweek." Sounds like Robert Kraft.
He didn't give up $24mil! You have a reading comprehension issue. By making his contract guaranteed only for injury the Patriots no longer have to hold $24mil in escrow to pay his guaranteed salary, which gives the team more cash to use in the offseason. He still will get that $24mil as long as he's on the team for those seasons. He didn't give them a penny. In fact he was given a $1mil boost per season to do this.
He gets an extra $1 mil per season for giving up his guarantee (except for injuries) which frees up $24 mil for NEP. He's getting way below market money for a Qb of his caliber: but the highlight of his deal was it was all guaranteed. Now it isn't. Most players don't want the franchise tag even though they will get more money for a season because they want the guarantees. That's a fact of life. The one mil extra for giving up the guarantees is chickenfeed and if you read the article I posted the agent quoted in it says he's never seen a player give up his guarantees. This entire deal and all of the restructuring is total BS.
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-england-patriots/tom-brady/cash-earnings/ When Brady redid his contract in 2013 he did take less than market value. But he also got $25mil in signing bonuses the last two years ($10mil and $15mil), along with the $16mil signing bonus he got in 2010 (total salary of $23mil that year) he's gotten $41mil in signing money the last 5 years. You make it sound like he's working for peanuts, but while under market value he's been averaging $15.5mil the last 5 years and made $150mil over his career. Just maybe he cares more about winning than making the most money.
I tried adding up those figures to see what his annual salary acutally is and it's confusing because of the changes in contract and signing bonuses. I don't think the 15.5 is accurate in terms of what he's actually getting per season. The articles I read said in the area of 10-12 over a period of time including the signing bonuses. Anyways it is about the money. And about league rules. Not just about him caring more about winning. I don't believe that for a minute. If they are trying to skirt around the salary cap, etc. I would expect him to eventually get paid. No matter how much his wife makes.
This is just another red herring.....he's given up at least 100 million so far based in his "success" equated to market rate for elite QBs
