He didn't stop being a Jets fan or going to games. Switching seats and not leading a chant is not quitting on a team. The guy was being harassed as if he drafted and signed players. Excellently bad thread.
Light the torches and get me my pitchfork! Shea used to literally rock when the team was playing well. Fireman Ed was nowhere in sight.
I just want to point out i do not mean this as a knock on Ed. The league and team thrust this #1 fan thing on him. He did not deserve the abuse from other Jets fans for merely playing a part given to him. However, as you pointed out Shea used to rock (well before my time*) and there is no reason Metlife can't be one of the most inhospitable stadiums in the league. I don't see why we can't rival the blackhole minus the stupid costumes. *Became a fan in '98 watching Parcells and Curtis Martin in their AFC champiosnhip run. i was 13 with no previous allegiance.
I don't mind him coming back to lead the J E T S chant. That is fine with me. It's been a joke of a chant since he stopped leading it and it is one of the best chants in sports. I would welcome him back under two conditions, however. First, someone give him a tutorial on when to make noise and when not to. It's pretty simple - quiet when the Jets have the ball. Second, he is NOT to be designated or celebrated as the Jets "super fan" or as a representative of our fan base at Jets events or anywhere else by the Jets. He is not to be flown to away games on the Jets' nickel (someone convince me this didn't happen when I saw him at every away game. I have firemen as friends and family and they could not afford to fly and attend every Jets road game). The chant is fine. Having some pseudo fireman with a sub average IQ as the Jets representative super fan was annoying and embarrassing as hell.
Lol I love the use of the word ASSAULT as if he was ever in danger, instead of a couple of guys razzing him while he was trying to take a piss, get real.
Then he sounds like a drama queen, a fire fighter who endangers his life saving lives and he's talking about being assaulted in a football stadium bathroom, if it was that bad why didn't he file a police report? Like I said, get real. He acted like a baby and now he's trying to stay away, probably because he acted like a baby. Get real.
He wasn't assaulted.. He was threatened and that's not right.. But his time has passed, should let someone else do it.
Not everybody is an internet alpha male like yourself. I'm sure you would have roughed those guys up, right? Not everybody feels the need to respond to a threat with physical violence. I was harassed when I went to Gillette Stadium to watch the Jets get beat by the Patriots in the playoffs. My friend was assaulted while he was taking a leak. My friend could tear the head off of a bull if he wanted to. I could handle myself, but what does violence accomplish? Beating the shit out of drunk football fans and ending up in an out of state jail? We brushed it off and went home. Will I ever go back to Gillette? Never again. I want to go to a game and not be harassed and so does Fireman Ed. You get real.
