The reason Revis was "cut" from Tampa Bay (and consequently didn't factor as a FA signing with the Pats) was that every year of his contract was an option year and they declined that option in the second year. Same thing that NE did 2 wks ago. So if Revis counted as a cut with TB he will count as a cut with NE.

This was exactly what Idik's plan was. Put yourself in a position to allow good players to walk, and promote younger player to take their position. Idzik's philosophy was so solid, he just executed terribly.

Jets can truly implement that this year. They just need to hit on their draft picks to build up that depth.

There was no option in the Tampa Bay contract.

Yeah I effed that post up good. No options, each year was 16m with no guarantees, it was effectively 6 option years but no options were written into the contract, my bag

That's what I thought I didn't think to fact check his post. I believe he was just cut.

After a quick google search he was released from Tampa. There was no option, instead a team friendly deal allowing them to cut him w minimal cap hit.

Revis and Chung do not count since they were cut from their previous team.
Lost Blount, Fletcher, Spikes and Talib and signed Browner and LaFell. These are the only 6 names that matter.
Blount was signed by the Steelers and played in 11 games for them, Talib is why they got the 3rd round pick, Fletcher and Spikes probably offset against Browner and LaFell with Blount giving them the 7th round pick.

    NE got a 4th in 2014, none in 2013, none in 2012, none in 2011 and a 6th and (3) 7ths in 2010
Seems like you may want to actually do some research before posting.

Thanks, next time I will make sure I do my Google research before posting something as a fan.

But if I did that, how would people such as yourself get the satisfaction of telling people they were wrong?

You don't get credit for a player that you only had for one year so they get no credit for Revis or Browner

I am sure there will always be ample times to point out when you are wrong.

Over the Cap seems to disagree with this point and awards the Patriots the 34th pick in the 3rd round in the 2016 NFL draft.

    Wasn't aware of that either.

I mean this without any sarcasm. This thread has been really informative even tho it was started oddly.

This is what I am going off of.

"All 32 NFL teams are allowed up to four compensatory picks, and they're only awarded to clubs that signed fewer players than they lost via free agency. That does not include players cut, players released after signing the year before or players making the league minimum."

Being the actual formula is not known it is all a guess but if not that reason then consider this also.

"Cut players do not count in the number of players lost, because the original team had the option to keep that player. These additional picks are intended to provide compensation only for players who have a contract expire at the end of the year, and a team does not re-sign them."

Seems based on this they would not get credit for Revis since they did have the option to keep him.

Granted these are statements from random sites but it makes sense. They could have kept him, they decided not to, no reason they should get a comp pick.

Some sites seem to disagree with the one year time frame but it does make sense since the team really didn't invest a lot into that player.
