I don't wanna get in the middle of all this but will add:

Mac stated on a jets.com interview he starts by surveying the draft for strengths and weaknesses, builds his board for upcoming potential draft pics, THEN looks to FA if necessary.

With this draft weak in DBs and FSs, it's no wonder Mac looked to FA in these areas.

This draft is strong in pass rushers, so sitting at #6 (in each level) Mac has to be thinking he can fill this need through the draft.

Probably why we haven't heard a peep over signing top tier pass rushers in FA.

So in a nutshell, if you wanna know who Mac is targeting in the draft, just look at who he's NOT targeting in FA.

everything points to an OLB at 6 if thats true.

I hope we end up with beasley... whether its at #6 or trading down and taking him in the 10-15 area. id be ok with fowler, but really dont think he would make much of an impact on our pass rush. i think beasley would have an instant impact like a von miller. that guy is relentless off the edge

I'll puke if after spending 140M in FA on the defense we waste our first pick on defense too..I don't believe for an instant that we will or we will have the same mess we had under Rex, a great defense and an offense that can't help but fail.

If the 2 QB's and the 2WR's are off the board at 6, anyone but a defensive guy would be a stretch.

Some people don't understand that. Unless we trade down OL is not an option at 6 and if both QB's/WR's are gone or if naturally the best fit is at OLB anyway that's what we will do.

    "waste"?

If Mariota is off the board, would you really pick a WR who we can only play in the slot as a rookie?

I would be happy with Mariota, Cooper, or a blue-chip OLB. If we choose to go for an EDGE pick, to finally get the OLB that we've been missing for nearly a decade, I'm not sure how that's a waste.

    Can you explain?

I don't see it happening unless we make a move adding someone like Mathis forcing us against the cap. I would expect this season to be his last with the cap space getting tighter next off season.

This really clears the path for us to draft a game breaking tight end with the number 6 pick

No, we will trade number 6 for a TE and a second rounder that can be used to draft a kicker.

    What, too soon?
