You just listed 5 accurate reasons why we can and should take a shot on MM. Not sure how smart and athletic have nothing to do with football at all.
Woody is not wrong. Geno is ahead of Mariota because he has played in this league. Can't compare a college QB to an NFL QB.
No you don't. You don't throw darts at the wall at ? Qb's with a top ten pick. You do that in the later rounds.
You can't really say Woody isn't right. Even if you think Marcus Mariota is the next Russell Wilson, he still hasn't even entered the league while Geno is a 2 year vet. I don't think anyone doubts that Geno is ahead of Mariota at this point. It's really a question of who has more potential.
True statement. The thing that makes woodys comment interesting is he said "believe it or not". LOL He outright shit on geno smith Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I feel like if you read between the lines (and assume Woody is one of the dumbest people in professional sports; which I do), you can learn a lot about the current state of the team. First of all, Woody doesn't know anything about NFL player personnel - so anything he states regarding the team's players is just something he's repeating that he's been told by the front office and/or coaching staff. So, obviously, Woody went to the GM and said something like "I want you to win immediately so you will probably have to draft Mariota in the first round," ... and the GM responded with "Believe it or not, Geno is way ahead of where Mariota will be and we have a better chance of winning right away with Geno than drafting Mariota in the first round." It tells you three things (at least two of them = bad): 1. Woody told the new GM that he's in "win now" mode (which is stupid because we don't have a QB and literally can't win now), and 2. We're not going to draft Mariota with the #6 pick (GM in "win now" mode isn't drafting a QB #6 to sit for a year), and 3. Someone in charge of talent evaluation on the team (GM, HC, OC) actually thinks Geno is more likely to win games than Mariota this year (shows the talent evaluator still doesn't realize just how bad Geno is).
Well that's one way to look at it LOL One could say that's taking the extreme overanalyzed/negative view but it's a way to look at such a comment I guess
With all due respect, can you most kindly explain why you believe Mariotta is a better prospect than Geno? I am of the mindset that we SHOULD draft Mariotta for the reasons of creating a viable qb competition between a journeyman vet, a 2nd year, lo-rated passer & a somewhat talented, college freshman. Mariotta neither represents a guaranteed upgrade (or downgrade) @ qb over Geno yet the more competition is presented @ this important position... the better. We have failed numerous times in drafting/obtaining an adequate shot-caller for so many years, it borders on insanity. Maybe Geno finally "get's it" this year; we don't know, but can we PLEASE have an earnest, open competition at qb to truly determine what's our best fit? Geno, ShitzPatrick, Mariotta? D@MNNNNNN, I WISH we had a more of choice behind center!!
Don't see how this is much of a smoke screen...lol. I don't think anyone else believes that we'd pass on Mariota because we believe in Geno Smith.
Or Woody just believes Geno is better considering like you said, he doesn't have any personnel knowledge
He may be, in 2 yrs. But there are players at #6 who would be a huge upgrade to a different position starting day 1. Decisions decisions. That's why GMs make the big bucks I guess.
