5 years, 38 mil with over 20 guaranteed. I guess the intention was to make it so the dolphins couldn't match it but everything I've read agreed with me that this is a ridiculous contract for Charles freakin Clay.

Includes 24.5 (!!!) over the first 2 years

C'mon, he is the 14th highest TE in receiving yards and 75th highest overall in rcvg yards, pay the man. All kidding aside if he pans out years 3-5 would be at a bargain rate of $4.5 M a year. His nagging injuries are a concern though.

Rex and Roman wanted Clay I'm guessing because he fits their offense. I realize we paid a good chunk of money for the guy, but for the Dolphins to pay $7 mil for a guy that's one concussion away from out of the league, somehow, I don't think were the only ones that overpaid

Buffalo really wanted him throughout FA for some reason. I don't get it. Probably because he's a TE/FB combo.

I don't understand why they were so negative on Scott Chandler up there all these years. He was an average TE but a big target and was fairly reliable. Clay isn't much of an upgrade IMO just a different type of TE.

Rex spending money on offense. Seems like he is over compensating. We'll see.

Do the Bills give up a pick in addition to this?

Yeah I'm sure Rex has no input on player signings.

No they do not as they didn't put a tag on him that included a pick

    Look at this shit-

"With Clay set to receive $24.5 million over the first two years, Rapoport notes the deal is structured to attack Miami's salary cap in 2016. In comparison, Rob Gronkowski's average annual salary is about $9 million"
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...les-clay-signs-offer-sheet-with-buffalo-bills

what I don't get is the part, "the deal is structured to attack Miami's salary cap in 2016", I understand that theory- but Miami won't match it, thus doesn't it attack Buffalo's salary cap in 2016? Seems counterproductive to me. Like shooting yourself in the foot so your enemy can't! - - oh but you get an average TE out of the deal!

The guy's a good player but was injured. Not sure whose calling the shots there in Buff but like with the Jets he probably has significant input. Rex is a shoot from the hip kind of guy and probably doesn't care a whole lot about fiscal issues and the long term he just wants a player now. If there really were problems between him and Idzik this was it. Rex wanted immediate results and Idzik was trying to rebuild the team. You'd think he'd know better after all those insane contracts Tannenbaum was handing out.

Remember when Rex compared Eric Smith to Ed Reed? I can hear him comparing this guy to Gronk and the GM eating it up. lol

I would legitimately pay $100 to see the better of either Clay or his agent's reactions when the formal offer sheet came through.

That is one of those euphoric, happy to be alive, I'm so glad I stuck it out moments.

They needed a TE bad. Don't they have a lot of cap room? Gotta spend it , so who cares.

i would've loved to get Clay here with the Jets..
he's a very solid, multidimensional player, whose best days are ahead of him..
but man that is one hefty price tag. too rich for me, especially w/o a QB to maximize his abilities.

on a side note, the Fins weren't able to land Jordan either right?
do they have any TE's? taking Clay away from Tannehill might help the Jets more than adding Clay to Cassel will hurt the Jets.

It aint my money........with the salary cap going up every season and no franchise QB to pay we're ok. We haven't even asked Mario to restructure so thats always in our back pocket........we just freed up and extra $2 million by asking Urbik to restructure.

Roman wanted Clay bad...........he feels he's the perfect fit for his offense , we shall see.

Just an absurd contract. More guranteed money than Gronk got.

The Bills, with that quarterback situation right now are like the pretty fat girl who gets all dressed up, but has no where to go.
