I ridiculed mcShay, because his mock's are the worst kind of conventional dreck. Mariotta might not make it to 6. But neither did Blake Bortles. I saw 2 Oregon games late, and he looked functional, and yes football is a team game, but he was running scared in the National Championship game. OSU afforded them 4 turnovers that should have resulted in more OSU totals, and that game was never a contest after the first Oregon series.
Okay, so you admit you are not qualified to accurately judge him. You've only seen 2 games of his. Here's a resource: http://draftbreakdown.com/?s=mariota
3. including the biggest game of his life. And the one against a defensively talented team. ANd...to be clear I saw every OSU game, and Oregon made them look better than they had all year. OSU won primarily by outscoring opponents....not by shutting them down.
I'.m not going to look them up a second time, but sheesh, NFL.com had Smith rated more favorably coming out. Clearly they were wrong on smith, calling him a pro bowl caliber player, but Mariota is (like Geno was) more hype and hyperbole, than NFL substance, imo.
RE: The Oregon Pro Day I still want Mariota. Let him sit behind Fitz for a year. I really hope we're also looking at Jake Fisher if he falls to us in the 2nd. (Didn't see that second one coming, did you!)
Dude, there was no bigger Sanchez fan than me. Let it go. It's over. Wish him well in Philly, as am I, but bringing Mark into this discussion is just silly. _
I'm an OSU fan so I know exactly what you mean. I just think you still sound ignorant about Mariota b/c you haven't watched him play. No one is really hyping him up anymore; it wouldn't shock me if he fell past the top 10 picks (asusming the Jets don't want him.) That being said, I think he would be a great addition to our team, a future starter and potential franchise Qb.
Like I said, if philly wants to move up from 6....they do have a healthy, cheap QB on the roster...lol
Passing on Mariota would be a mistake. While hes not perfect and there are a lot of questions about how his game will translate to the NFL, when you have a team set up as ours is, you have to take a chance on a franchise QB. Its just so important in this league and the guy has all the tools. While I don't like the fact that he has so much to learn such as reading defenses, its a project worth taking on. Not to mention our offensive coordinator is familiar with the spread offense, and has experimented with the read option. He can be very successful if used properly and I think our team is set up nicely for a project like Mariota.

These are the reasons why you do not take on a project QB with the number 6 pick. I would rather have a stud DE , LB or a trade back. Take a chance on a project player in the 2nd or 3rd round.
The guy is still head and shoulders better than anything we have at the most important position on the field, with the potential to become a real star. Does an OLB sound nice, yeah but a QB sounds better. Our defense is stacked, we don't need a star at every position. I'm sorry but Fitzpatrick isn't going to cut it in this league, we NEED a franchise QB.
Last few days i've been stuck on Vic Beasley. He's like the one piece our defense is missing. A speedy pass rusher. With wilk demanding a double team (or if not that's perfectly fine too.. lmao @ that team) Vic Beasley can use that speed and lay that hit that will rattle QB's confidence. Just a thought.
I absolutely love Vic Beasley; I think he may be the best player in the draft, though at this point I bet he is gone before our pick at 6. I would still choose Mariota over him, but if Mariota is gone I want us to pick Beasley.
Thats exactly how I feel. QB is just too important to pass up a good prospect at 6. But if so Beasley is my guy. If both are gone its gotta be best OLB available.
"you will be just as frustaded with mariota as you are with geno " skip slightly agree with him disagree that he isnt a first round pick he wont go past eagles.
I would definitely take a chance on Mariota as we won't be in position to pick a top 2 QB for years to come and good QBs never make it to FA. However I also believe there is no chance in the world he will be there at 6. Either the Titans or Redskins will take him or somebody will trade up to take him ahead of us so the whole thing is moot..unless of course we trade up to take him ourselves.
