Looking at how Mac has set this up it seems we are in win now mode! We added Revis and Marshall that are elite players but at their age we have 2/3 prime years with them. Not to mention Decker, Skrine, Wilkerson, Mangold, Ivory and Harris that are not old but certainly in their prime over the next 2/3 seasons. The only real young stars are Richardson and Pryor.. We can't win now with Geno... So who will they get to lead this team at QB to truly be a contender?
I dont think we will get a qb to put us in win now mode this year. Next tear could be a different story
They're certainly not in rebuilding mode, but I dont think I'd say they're in win now mode. If Mariota isnt available, I still think they need to look for a wide receiver at 6.
In my mind without a doubt. You dont trade for Marshall and sign Revis if you arent expecting playoffs. And Im pretty confident we'll land something that looks like an NFL starting QB before the season starts. IDK how they'll do it but with the amount of trades this offseason I think teams are open to the discussion at the very least. I have a feeling we end up with Bradford. Wouldn't thrill me, and we might need to put him in a protective bubble until Week 1, but it would tell me that the front office wants to go for it.
This isn't true, but I would say adding Revis and Marshall hurry things up a bit. You realistically have three more years of these guys playing at a top teir level. They are our two best players. We have no choice but to win in the next three years unless we stumble upon the next great receiver or running back.
Yes it is true. This was made true when we re-signed David Harris and traded for Marshall. Mac is setting us up to win now and in the future. This is a "win now" mode plain and simple.
You aren't set up to win in the future when your best offensive player is 31 and your best defensive player is about to be 30 with a monster contract and a history of holding out. You have three years to do it unless you make some serious serious moves. And trust me I hope Mac does.
We're in a "be competitive now" mode for the next couple of years. How Mac does in the draft could mean a lot of success down the road. I mean, we really just need to find a QB and see how this coaching staff does before we know for sure. It still chaps my ass that Idzik blew those 12 draft picks last year. That could have been the difference between being serious contenders next season and being kinda in the hunt (which is where we could be depending on how the rest of free agency and the draft shake out).
First off, Pryor isn't close to a star at this point in his career. Revis will be 30 this coming season and he has 4-5 more years of prime left so it was a good and logical deal by the Jets. He's one of those guys who takes good care of his body and minimizes the amount of contact he incurs. He can easily play at a high level til 34, 35. Hell, Darrell Green played at a Pro Bowl level well into his late 30's. Marshall is 31 this coming year and he's got a good 3-4 prime years left, barring injury. They're both in their mid-late primes but have several high level seasons left.
These are definitely win now moves. You don't trade for 31 wide receivers and break the bank for an elite CB if you weren't about winning now.
What the hell is win now mode? As opposed to what, lose now mode? Every team should be making an effort to be competitive every year, every year should be win now mode.
You answered your own question. There is nobody except for Mariota magically turning into Joe Montana (or maybe way, way outside chance that Cutler could resurrect his career).
