Not a fan. He can't read defenses. Laser arm but no touch. He's a great athlete with a great arm but not a very good QB. He has a lot of sanchez-esque moments. Quite puzzling to see fans value Foles so low and Kaep so high.
Agreed about Kaep. As for Cutler, I have talked alot about him this off season already, but my latest take on him is he's not going anywhere.
Bingo. We went to the same school, watched him a lot. He didn't need to really read defenses because of the pistol O that they ran. He won a lot of games with his legs, not his arm and he always had a good RB's lined up next to him. I thought it was bizarre how high he got drafted but that hybrid QB thing was all the rage right around that time. Kinda turned into a knucklehead when he got to the NFL and I think the media would eat him alive in NY
The window in SF closed with Harbaugh's departure. Kaepernick was his baby. He's the one who pushed Alex Smith out the door to play him. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the 49ers try to dump that contract. I don't think they will do it for a 2nd round pick though. It would take the 6 to get Kaepernick from the 49ers. He's likely to be better than Mariota long-term and if the Jets don't have a deal with the Eagles and the 49ers want the 6 for Kaepernick it is a very defensible deal. I don't think Kaepernick is a great QB by any means but he passes the Terry Bradshaw test with flying colors.
Kaep is better than any QB available right now. But his asking price is too steep. Apparently Browns offering their 1st rounder. There's no way...
I wouldn't be all that surprised to see the Browns offer a 1st and a 2nd before they give up. They're in a very similar position to the one we have right now with huge question marks at QB and the team set back as a result.
It's a moot point since he's not available, but I would take Kaep in a heartbeat. If you're talking a 2nd round pick, to me that's a no brainer. As a pocket passer he is miles away from the elite guys. But the guy is a playmaker. He has a rocket arm, decent to good accuracy, is a home run threat with his legs, and has that moxie and leadership you want in your QB. Also, he doesn't turn the football over. It's not his fault he played for the philosophically most run-heavy HC in the NFL and was only allowed to throw like 20 passes a game.
Ironically, a run heavy offense is exactly what he needs. They tried to open things up as more of a passing (pro style) offense this year and Kaepernick struggled with it.
No. Just saying that it's my understanding that unlike Cutler's, his contract is team friendly and he could be cut if things didn't work out.
I would do a deal in a NY Minute. Let me explain.... A little backstory here. Last year was a throw away year as far as Kap is concerned. The 49'er management wanted Harbaugh gone BEFORE the start of the 2014 season. That season was doomed before training camp ever got going and Harbaugh was distracted right out of the gate. The fact they won as many games as they did was a testament to just how good Kap really is because, from the way I hear it, Harbaugh was "checked out" the whole season. Kap was on his own. There was so much back stabbing and in fighting going on in the coaching ranks that the fact they fielded a team is a minor miracle. Baalke absolutely couldn't stand how much power and player good will Harbaugh built so quickly and knew that if he didn't get rid of him that his days as the top guy for San Francisco were numbered. Jed York has a short memory though and clearly forgot how BAD the Niners were before Harbaugh got there. Baalke has been a part of that organization since 2005 and clearly, somehow, convinced York that it was HE who was the difference and WHY the Niners were winning as opposed to Harbaugh. I mean Harbaugh took the EXACT SAME TALENT that Singletary left behind and went from 6-10 to 13 - 3 in ONE year...but, of course, it was ALL Baalke. I know a few 49'er players and they essentially hinted as much. I mean since when did winning not become enough in the NFL? Ce la vie...the Niners loss...who cares. Having said all that, I'd damn skippy take Collin Kaepernick...in a heart beat...oh, and I'd give up the #6 to do it...anything less is gravy! I think he is only going to get better with experience and time. Also, notice, the media didn't have a problem with Kap up until LAST year (see huge diatribe above). With proper coaching and management behind him I fully expect to see 2012/2013 Collin and not 2014 Collin. He's just getting started. On the heels of all that...I HAVE to believe Baalke when he says Collin is not on the block. I mean, really...the Niners HAVE to not just make the playoffs this year...but they must make a deep run or the proof will be that it was ALL Harbaugh and that they really jacked up. And they are NOT doing that without Collin. If their ego gets in the way of that then Trent Baalke is looking at his first and last GM job in the NFL because this will go down as the BIGGEST collapse in the HISTORY of the NFL. Oh, and word from my friends and on the street is that Patrick Willis is still playing football with Jim Harbaugh running the show. His only option was to retire...what's that saying about rats and a sinking ship??
Wow. Seriously, just wow. Unless Jim Tomusula is the next coming of Bill Bellichick, this will go down as one of the worst moves in NFL history. Just goes to show that just because these guys are pros doesn't mean they can't screw up. That division is gonna eat them alive this year. Seattle is gonna be good for years, Arizona is legit and the Rams are young and talented. *smh* EDIT: BTW Harbaugh's actions prove your story. Less than 24 hours after coaching the 49ers last game of the season, he's on a jet to Michigan to take their job.
Why? I would personally rather have Mariota than Kap. However, if we can't get Mariota at the 6, Kap is not only better than anyone we have. He's also better than anyone we have had since Favre. He certainly has concerns, though I think you have misrepresented them in your past comments. Do you really think the 49ers got to 3 straight NFC championship games (and one Super Bowl) with Kap as dead weight? If Kap was on this team, working with Chan Gailey and the receivers we have, the Jets would instantly be playoff contenders. With a few more pieces, we could become Super Bowl contenders. Then again, maybe I'm just overvaluing him because the Jets haven't had a half-decent Qb in so long. That said, I'll take "half-decent Qb" over "1st round, possibly blue-chip OLB/WR" any day.
