He is OK in a specific role. I'm not saying he is terrible, just that Powell is the overall better player.

When Powell has been given the same amount of touches in a season, Powell has out performed Woodhead.

Powell isn't a bad player. All this extra talk takes away from that point.

Powell is solid. Happy he's back. I'd imagine Jets will look to draft for third back.

Just because you have a lot of money doesn't mean you just throw it at anyone. RBs are a bad gamble for big money for the most part, especially FA RBs. You think Spiller has the ability to be one of the best, and I'm sure you aren't alone, but that sounds more like a potential route argument than it does one based in fact. The same can be said for drafted players because RBs come out of the gate in the NFL pretty quickly. I'm not sure that I would wager cap years for Spiller over a draft pick and cap years for other FAs/existing players no matter the perceived pirate chest of cap space at the end of the rainbow

very good value move to re-sign Powell.

guy is a good overall player. couple things i like the most:

    1) excellent in pass protection. one of the better ones in league.
    2) the guy does not fumble. literally has never lost a fumble in his NFL career.
    3) runs north south, and is very effective at picking up 4+ yds quickly with just a narrow hole in the line
    4) versatility.. can play any RB role we need
    5) won't cost much at all

glad to see u back Bilal!

So much bitching in here. Nice to know everyone's period is in sync.

...and he catches passes. He's a smart player. You need guys like that on your team, on your roster.

Good point about Spiller too. I've wanted Spiller, or a player like him. So you may very well be right about their approach towards that type player

There's a Gatorade bucket full of cranberry juice at the door lol

The period in sync stuff is on point, whenever women spend too much time together they end up bleeding the same week

He has an injury history and that will affect his price regardless of whether this is a bidding war. I don't see him getting huge money but he'll get paid. When he's been given the carries he's proven himself - especially in our new OC's offense. He has relatively low mileage for a RB and is well worth the gamble IMO. I know it hurts to see Woody Johnson part with his money though.

As for Powell. OK - good player.

There are 31 other teams in the league, and all he could get was a 1-year deal (according to Mehta) from the Jets. That announces to the world there was zero market for him.

Look, I can live with him as the #3 or #4 if it means they are still going to pursue a legit difference maker at the RB position. But based on everything I am seeing and hearing, this means they are out of the Vereen and Spiller mix. To me Powell is still JAG.

I am not saying Spiller is the "end all be all" either. If they can get MG3 or Gurley in round 2, that would be a very good move in my opinion.

I am eager to see the team get better and add talent to the roster because I care about winning.

Good post! Tack on a 3.9 yd/carry average and not a bad re-sign as our 3rd back. Just drives me INSANE that people keep labeling this signing as some kind of indicator that the Jets are done collecting talent at the RB position. So stupid.

Its interesting that media reports say the Jets arent interested in Spiller. Maybe Chan Gailey didnt go to bat for him?

I want documented proof that this is the case...that isn't Mehta or Cimini by the way... I want something from Schefter or written on ESPN or something...

Yeah Powell may be JAG, but I've watched all the Jets games, and maybe I have forgot but I cant recall any play where Bilal just screwed up. Didn't pick up a blitz, didn't finish his run, dropped an easy catch etc. Yes he isnt a home run threat, but he is reliable, shifty and smart. If they bring in Spiller too thats OK by me, but I'd prefer a rookie.

I like the move to resign Powell. His all around game is very underrated, and I'm glad that the new regime took the time to study what he brings to this team and able to keep him from going elsewhere.

Now I hope we can draft a 3rd back with a little bit of speed, but with only 4 picks that may not turn out to be the case. Maybe we make a move on Spiller?

You are content in your beliefs and so am I, I'm content to let his career play out at this point. I'm not enamored with CJ Spiller, that is my position.

    Thanks for entertaining my argument.
