I agree with what you are saying, maybe the players turned out to suck but they wanted both Nugent and Miller and picked up a TE in the process. They absolutely pulled off exactly what they wanted to do.
I hate this misconception. If you gave up 2 first round picks but got back 1 to take the player--you only gave up ONE 1st round pick and effectively swapped the other. Holy shit we gave up TWO first round picks?!? Yeah, but we got a first round player with the pick we swapped. _
No way that is worse than the Vinny contract, not even close. That contract affected the team for like 6 years, the roster went totally vanilla as a result. That Cox situation was stupid but it doesn't rate
To me, it has to be the Sanchez extension or the Robertson trade. When moves like that prohibit you from getting key talent elsewhere, which is essentially what both moves did, it prevents you from building sustainable success. It is a toss up though. Trading up to get a DT with a degenerative knee condition? Or throwing way too much money at a QB for no good reason. Holmes deal was similar but less restrictive I felt. I'm fine with giving fair deals to players but I thought we were grossly overpaying for both.
the sanchez extension was more about not wanting to hurt his feelings than about football/him deserving an extension with his play. That is why it was so frustrating, even if we try not to consider the mess it created after the fact.
Yup, everyone agreed it was a high risk/high reward move...Not only that he dominated the combine. Now when analysts talk about not taking too much out of the combine they refer to Vernon Gholston for being amazing but failing in NFL and Russell Wilson who stunk at the combine but is great in NFL

that's just not true. many of BP's moves got us in cap hell, Vinny's was part of it but it wasn't solely b/c of Vinny. BP didn't care about our cap long term, he was getting in and getting out.
