We've had our differences on this board, to say the least, but right is right, and JStokes is 100% right about that. Aaron Rodgers was considered almost a lock to be the #1 overall pick a few months before that draft, and his stock only started slipping late in the process, in the weeks leading up to it. It was an absolute shock that he fell so far. He was supposed to be the #1 overall pick, a true franchise QB, and he slid to #24. Those are facts. So it can happen, however unlikely.
Yup thats my price tag too. Foles is great to have, but it's obvious if Chip Kelly makes this move than he will get rid of Foles either now or in the future.
Yeah well a 2016 1st rounder is considered a 2nd rounder in terms of its present value. We would require more than that if that is the case, maybe an extra 2nd rounder or more. If Mariota sucks then we'd really be cashing in on those picks.
It's funny because now that we have Marshall I keep seeing "well who is going to throw him the ball?"... How about Mariota? Foles isn't a must have QB, for all we know we could be searching for another QB in 2016 (again). Marshall, Decker, & Jace.. all big targets could be security blankets for Mariota, plus he can run around in the spread if need be. Im certain the Jets will have a private workout with Mariota, if they fall in love with him... F that trade. Just a thought.
I'm kinda wondering why Foles is held in such high esteem if Chip Kelly is willing to get rid of him?
Two one's and a fourth is a fair price. If they want to include Foles, probably two ones and a fith, plus Foles would work IMO.
Agreed, but at what point would Chip Kelly's love for Oregon players start to make it worthwhile for us? The guy may throw us 2 1sts 2 2nds and Foles for Mariota. Unless the Jets have a ton of belief in this guy, there is a much higher chance they draft a good QB with 4 high picks and seeing what Foles could do.
Yeah I agree. Maybe Foles (plus swap of 1st rounders), 2015 4th rounder, 2016 1st rounder and 3rd rounder, 2017 1st and 4th, something like that perhaps? I'd even "settle" for Foles (plus swap of 1st rounders), 2016 1st and 3rd, 2017 2nd and 4th. That would be a nice haul, and a fair deal I think given that Mariota is a potential franchise QB.
The problem is the reality of how he was viewed by the league is indicated by where he was drafted. If he was truly viewed as a can't miss prospect 23 teams wouldn't have been willing to miss him as they did. I don't recall any overwhelming sentiment that he was clearly the best player in the draft; the debate of whether it would be he or Smith was active until the 49ers made their choice.
Well, Rodgers was no worse than #2 overall, until all the bogus rumors, overanalysis, misinformation, smoke screens, etc that swirl around the draft process in the weeks leading up to it and cloud everyone's judgement. That's why late risers are always suspect and free fallers can be great bargains.
That's your opinion. It does take reality and timing into account. The Jet's aren't just a QB away from having a good team. There are lots of holes that need to be filled.
So you have no idea what my theory/strategy is. As I suspected. Your plan absolutely does not take reality and timing into account. Hell, you could build a team around Tebow so what does it matter who the QB is? _
While I'd take anything over Geno at this point, and in terms of Football Foles > Geno imo, but Foles certainly isn't my choice guy for QB here. Dude's arm strength is questionable and he's about as athletic as a camel. If we do take Foles and some draft picks from Philly, he's nothing more than a "stop-gap" at best. IMO we should move up and take Mariota or draft him if he falls to us, I see great potential in that Kid. At this point I'm only interested in a stop-gap QB if Mariota is on our sideline with a clipboard and headset on.
Agree with your post because I like Foles as well. However, passing on Mariota if available would be a mistake. Coles is good with NFL experience but MM trumps him on talent.
No there isn't. Just because you have 4 high picks doesn't mean there will be a good QB prospect available at one of those picks. You may have to package all of them together to try to move up, and even then, other teams may not want to move down. There's also the likelihood that none of those prospects could have the talent or football IQ of Mariota.
idk why everyone wants foles do people not understand that chip kelly is trying to get rid of him for a reason? he thinks they can't build around him, so how can we assume it will work here? i mean jeez, it's common sense
