You guys act like $7.5 Million is a crazy figure. It is not. What would you rather spend? Losing him would have been a big hole in the defense. Going to Rex's Bills would have made it even worse. Good move by Maccagnan and Gang Green. Also shows Bowles considers him a player of value on his defense.
Fair enough, considering everything I think this could make everyone feel better about the resigning. Than said, you have to hope this doesn't set a precedent...if Harris makes this much, how much are we going to give to Wilk...
The market isn't that great, Harris was going to command more money in the free agency market. Besides, the draft pick compensation we'd get for Harris would most likely get wiped out if we are going on a FA binge. I am fine with it but would still poke around for a capable backup ILB who can be a 3rd down LBer.
Doesn't kill the cap- and the room is there. You pay open market value when your guys hit the open market...if you want to keep them. We have that luxury right now
Might be less of a cap hit than you think. $15 million guaranteed, right? You know some of that is a signing bonus, so let's say the SB is $5 million. Now he's only guaranteed $5 million a year for the next two years. So you take care of one hole and deny him going to the Bills. Smart move.
I think Macc did the right thing. It was a tough spot. He knew he had to overpay, because once Harris hit FA the price was only going to go up. Rex and Tannenbaum would have been all over him @4 pm on Mar. 10. A lot of teams need help at 3-4 ILB. The Bears are transitioning to a 3-4 and their D is in extremely bad shape. You retain a core guy, a tackling machine, the "QB of the defense" for at least 2 more years. 120+ tackles per year is tough to replace. Would anybody have felt good about having to start a rookie like McKinney week 1?
ilb just isnt one of those positions i like to see the team over pay for. especially with a guy who is a decent talent but not a real difference maker. http://overthecap.com/position/inside-linebacker/ im not a huge fan of his play and his inability to move in space. i hate to see the team overpay because there may not be anothre guy out there to bring in.
Another great move. Good linebacker with a lot of experience. Also keeps him away from Rex in Buffalo. Love it
Great resigning - I had a feeling he would come back. Hopefully Harris retires w/ us. In the mean-time they can take a flyer on an ILB late in the draft for develop.
It's a lot but if that's what it took to keep him off the open market, where a lot of teams have a ton of money to spend, then it's absolutely worth overpaying by $1-2 million a year to keep him in NY.
Its over 3 years according to rotoworld with 2 fully guaranteed at 15.......I think its structred so the cap wont be too bad. Plus he isnt a terrible play. Not a bad move. I wouldnt be suprised if hes cut after 2015 tho
