That's what I was thinking, I'm not so sure why everyone thinks it's a forgone conclusion we cut Harvin. One of the biggest issues we've had since the late 90's is we've never had a real threat out of our WR's. Could you imagine Harvin as our slot guy? Granted he makes a shitload but he's dangerous and could do so much more than your average WR. I also can't imagine the new GM being so liberal with his draft picks in year 1. Yes Marshall is better than anything we would get in the 5th (or at least that's the plan) but with no 6 we'd essentially be done drafting by the end of day 2 so maybe the plan is to hold onto Harvin.

What about the receivers we drafted last year? Are they a bust, or worth a shot?

I love this deal on paper (dependent on the draft pick, of course).

While I do believe very much in Marshall's rehabilitation/management of his mental health issues (I've always been intrigued by him and have seen pretty much every feature story on him), I'm not convinced that it's something that is resolved to the point of no concern, nor am I sold that he's a model citizen/teammate.

It's definitely something to spice up the offseason, though!

That is true. But at this moment a lot of people consider him a number 1 WR. I think he's borderline 1 right now the same way Decker is. Its a very solid tandem so I have no issues with that.

But it just reenforces the point that we should get a young WR in here that could take over for Marshall in a year or two if he begins to breakdown and cant take on the full workload or becomes a locker room problem.

Remains to be seen. I like that the front office is being aggressive though.

    Perhaps.

But, Harvin basically forced his way out of Seattle because he didn't want to play slot.

Bowles was a coach on Miami when Marshall was there, so he knows what he's getting personality-wise.

Please no, Hoyer is awful. Rightfully benched for Johnny.

If no QB in the draft bring in a backup type like Matt Moore or Glennon rather than signing Hoyer to be our starter for a few years.

That makes me feel a little better

    I was thinking it was a 3rd.

5th makes it worth the risk

If it's indeed a 5th rounder they basically decided that:

    Marshall + 5th (to Chi) + 6th (to Sea) > Harvin + 4th (to Sea)
Plus the cap savings of roughly $3 million for '15

Smart move all around if true

That's what I was thinking it would be. It's a late-mid round pick

For a late round pick, this is a smart, smart pickup. Nice to see good moves this early on!
