For the past four or five years it seems like we as a fan base like to pummel the head coach and the front office for choosing defense time and time again in the first round. Well now that we've been through two general managers and one head coach, whose fault would it be this year? Would we maybe finally except the fact that taking the best player available is a more than common procedure in the NFL? Would we finally realize that maybe it's just our fan base that likes to whine and not the coaches or front office that got it wrong? I'm not suggesting we should take a defensive player over either of the quarterbacks or two stud wide receivers… But if both quarterbacks are gone I could see us going for the best linebacker available and that would set off a total shitstorm.
I don't want to get into the blame game, however if the Jets overlook both QB's and both WR's, then there will be good reason for the uproar. That said, if those QB's and WR's are gone by 6, then I'd want the Jets to take one of those top Rush end/OLB's. Any other position taken at 6 will be criticized heavily, and rightfully so.
accept http://www.vocabulary.com/articles/chooseyourwords/accept-except/ at this point i dont think it matters in any way shape or form. there is no tendency with this group. there was a HUGE tendency the previous number of years.
The only, and I mean only, way I see us going defense in round 1 is if he trade out of pick 6. Bowles has said already that he plans on adding two corners to this team through free agency or the draft. If we are at #6 and Mariota and Winston are gone, I can see us trading back to add more picks to our limited 6 we have, and then I can see us taking a corner late in the first. Again, all dependent on who we take in free agency. Other than that scenario, I don't see a possible way we go defense at #6. If Mariota falls, you don't skip him. If Mariota is taken and we stay at 6, there will be VERY good WR's available.
I wouldnt blame anyone. There are multiple OLBs who could give us the edge rusher we've lacked for so long.
I don't forecast a shit storm. I feel like if both QBs are gone even if one of the top WRs are available and we go OLB that fans won't revolt. Looking at this draft there are truly some stud OLBs and fact is that we desperately need one. That said if we went DB at 6 then yes, the shit will fly.
Idzik got all the blame for his picks I'm putting the responsibility on Mac. I want him to grab BPA either side of the ball. Winston blew away the combine yesterday, I consider he and Leonard Williams good as gone for our pick. I don't see Mariota there but will add him to my list. As long as we get one of these 6 players I'll be satisfied. They should all be solid starters to future stars and odds are we'll get to pick between 2 or 3 of them: Marcus Mariota Kevin White Randy Gregory Shane Ray Amari Cooper Dante Fowler Kevin White is who I'd pull the trigger on but I can see him going 4th or 5th. If the QBs, Williams and White are gone, we'll take the top rated player whether it's Cooper or any of the pass rushers. Maybe even Flowers or Peat but I don't see us taking OL at 6.
This is a foolish thread. There's no denying that the Jets almost always went defense in the first round while Rex was a head coach all while the offense sucked a fat dick. If Bowles & Mac draft nothing but DL's and DB's in the 1st round for 5 straight years we'll complain about that too if the offense is obviously not up to par and the team isn't successful. As of now it's a clean slate. They are building there image of a football team and obviously will need pieces to do that.
i had no problem drafting D players these past years, and would have no problem again this year. our entire D has been rebuilding, with only Harris and Pace left from the playoff years this past season. it's not like we haven't had holes to fill. Drafting as high as 6, it's all about getting a clean player. i like Mariota, i like Cooper and White, and i'm interested in a couple of the OT's. that said, Fowler looks like the real deal to me, and 3-4 OLB's aren't the easiest to find. if we go D, that would be my pick.
i am far more worried about what we do in rounds 2, 3 and 4 than what we do at the 6. i think it will be pretty simple decisions when we get on the clock for the 6. good teams are made in rounds 2, 3 and 4 that is where you get guys who fill the team and make it remarkable better. to hit on those guys consistently is what makes contenders and what keeps those contenders on top.
I think I would be upset if the early picks are mostly defense. I have no issue with them selecting one of the edge rushers in round 1, but if they follow that up with a CB in round 2 that would suck. There is good talent at the WR and RB positions, and I'd like the Jets to get one of those guys. Keep the draft balanced between O and D and its all good.
The only way I would be pissed is if they take a D player over Mariota, Winston or Cooper. If we land Gregory or Fowler jr with the above 3 gone.. I'm ok with that
