Winston has gone testing for apparent weakness in throwing shoulder. WTF? This could be a nerve problem on his throwing shoulder and may need treatment...May hurt his stock. Being a pitcher may hurt him... What does it all mean from a draft standpoint?
Its on ESPN TV, they are at the combine reporting. Developing Story. Coach helping Winston throw just commented saying he had no idea bout this. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...jameis-winston-experiencing-weakness-shoulder
Too early to tell at this time, we will have to see what the tests show. This could easily change the draft.
I'm going to wait a bit before I put too much stock in this. I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a precautionary test. Around this time of year anything that could be perceived as a red flag will be magnified.
Well it sure isn't a red herring. Nothing that Winston could have done on the field hurts his potential draft position more than an apparent physical issue in his throwing shoulder.
Strange that he decided to throw if he is experiencing issues...unless he knew that info was going to get out and he wanted to throw to show it wasn't a problem? Not sure.
It suggests that the problem happened while he was throwing. He was warming up or something and suddenly realized he didn't have the pop in his arm that he was used too. Otherwise he would never have agreed to throw in the first place.
Ah okay, I didn't realize that was how it came out. I thought it was something pre-existing that people just found out about today, my bad.
Winston would never have agreed to throw if there was a condition that was going to be exposed in this way. The only thing I can think of that might have led to this chain of events is that he suddenly had the problem while warming up in Indy. Even if his agents wanted to leak this for some reason, so that they could play it off as overblown later on, it wouldn't make sense to do it at the combine with all the NFL evaluators and media present and focused on him.
Depending on how this plays out Mariota could go #1 and since Winston is considered the most ready to be a day one starter between the two it significantly reduces the chances of either being there when the Jets draft. I could see Washington drafting Winston, but I couldn't see them drafting Mariota after the RGIII situation.
The ESPN story says that the weakness was exposed during his physical at the combine. This may be no issue. Winston says he is not having a problem. The story says that he had an MRI on the shoulder, which apparently is done for all QB prospects at the combine and the weakness was detected in the MRI. Then he had an electromyography (which undoubtedly is a long name designed to let hospitals charge 10x what an MRI costs) that went looking for specific nerve damage associated with the weakness. No reports on the outcome of that. He says he is throwing tomorrow. If he looks good in the drills this will probably all blow over. It has highlighted the fact that he pitches for FSU as well, which is probably something he didn't want people thinking about too heavily at this point.
He claims it's no big deal. And he took an MRI as did all players at the combine. But as he said he's played baseball and been a pitcher since he was 4 years old. As we know about pitchers it takes it's wear and tear on an arm. So I think this is a legit red flag. Even if he has no major tear or injury now there's a chance he might have arm problems during his career.
Shoulder? Who cares? He is a Jet, I hope,if he drops because of this. Do you see him him throw today? Right on the money, right now, ready to go. My apologies to the younger TGG members but if Jamis has 2 years in the tank and takes the Jets to a SB he is worth it and I die, 46 years of waiting, in peace.
The guy isn't boring like Mariota who could be overwhelmed by the NY press. They'd probably like Winston because he'd give them copy. He has a Rex-like personality. But off the field he's a fuck up. Not sure he could survive that scrutiny. I think the arm injury is significant. I'd pass on him. He might be this year's Manziel.
I think that up until Winston had his interview and then showed off his NFL caliber I would have agreed. But each year goes by waiting for that great white hope and poof we wait on and on. Yes, Winston is a bad crab leg boy. Will he rape in NYC? I guess that's the 64000 dollar question lol I say we sign him and he agrees to an ankle monitor. Heh...So many players are one step away from arrest well he may be one of them but he's a brilliant player. Deserves more than interview.
