A+. What a great, refreshing thread, and super good responses. Nice food for thought as we move forward with free agency. Thanks to all of you that take the effort and the time to provide us with insightful information, nice details and rational for each player. Hope we have more threads like this as the road to the draft and free agency becomes clearer and clearer.
Davon House, CB from Green Bay is rumored to be looking to sign somewhere he could start. Only 1 int but 10 Pass Deflections as GB's 3rd corner. Tramon Williams would be an interesting target too but I think we could sign Cromartie and House cheap while massively upgrading the position. Bring in some safety help and our secondary might be able to turn it around next season with a healthy Milliner.
Davon House is an interesting name. Apparently he's seeking 5M+ per year (per a recent Rotoworld blurb), which means you'd be paying him largely on potential rather than production, which is a risk. At the right price he'd be worth a look if this regime thinks he can play, but he shouldn't the only or primary acquisition. I think Tramon Williams and Cromartie have some similarities, but I'd expect Cromartie to be a priority given all his ties to the Jets now
I hate Cameron. Well hate is a strong word but I played FF for the first time this year and he was my big TE and he got me a punch of zeroes. Hurt and even when not hurt very ineffective. I guess the bad QB play didn't help. _
Wonder if they will still go after Sanchez. Not sure McCown is the answer anyway, there is a couple guys I would rather have.
I think it'd be smart to go after Vereen if Pats won't give him 3 years 10.5 mil. He definitely is one of the top pass catching backs in the league and was huge in the Super Bowl. Spiller might have potential and familiarity with Gailey but he really had only 1 good year in 2012 and is injury prone..I'd take Vereen over Spiller but not against drafting Abdullah, Coleman or Ajayi ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reports three years and $10.5 million may be the starting point for free agent Shane Vereen's next contract. If Vereen wants that kind of money -- which he's certainly worth -- Reiss finds it hard to see the Patriots matching it. The Patriots haven't been known to pay up for free-agent running backs. Vereen turns 26 next month and is one of the top receiving backs in the league with room to grow. Reiss suggests Jacksonville as a potentially "strong suitor" for Vereen. I like Rahim moore, not really sure what we have in AA after a good season at safety followed up by a pretty bad one at safety (I'll exclude his showing at CB... he tried at least) Also I think Bruce Carter would be a nice replacement for Pace. Young, fast, good 3-4 OLB.. buried into Dallas's 4-3 he hasn't been that effective as he's a misfit. Bring him in if Worilds can't get got for a good deal
I think Vereen would be my favorite RB free agent target by a mile followed by Helu, then maybe Spiller. The guy has incredible hands, is a mismatch for LBs and can track the ball downfield too. Given how injury prone Ivory has been, i don't think pairing him up with Spiller is a great idea.
I would take Sheard in a second. The kid is a stud and he hasn't hit his ceiling at all yet. He is a good player who should get even betterr.
I would be surprised if the Jets drafted another OG. Over just the last 2-3 drafts they drafted Winters, Aboushi, Dozier and William Campbell. They need a veteran who already plays at a high level to shore up and help lead the OL. IMO, if we draft an OL, it needs to be an OT, either to upgrade Giacomini at RT in 2016, or hopefully, Brick's replacement for 2016. The thing is, depending upon what you mean by "cheap," that's not the way to go. They need to fix the OL, not bring in another stiff just to have someone else competing for a spot. There are three good to excellent OGs available as UFAs and who should have reasonable price tags unless they get re-signed by their present teams: Orlando Franklin (Broncos), James Carpenter (Seahawks) and Clint Boling (Bengals). Then of course, if you want to pay BIG bucks, there's Mike Iupati of the Niners. Here's the complete list of UFA OGs according to NFL.com - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000459436/article/2015-nfl-unrestricted-free-agents-by-position Guards Clint Boling, Cincinnati Bengals James Brewer, New York Giants James Carpenter, Seattle Seahawks Daryn Colledge, Miami Dolphins Willie Colon, New York Jets Dan Connolly, New England Patriots Vladimir Ducasse, Minnesota Vikings Orlando Franklin, Denver Broncos Mike Iupati, San Francisco 49ers John Jerry, New York Giants Mike Johnson, Atlanta Falcons Davin Joseph, St. Louis Rams Mike McGlynn, Kansas City Chiefs Erik Pears, Buffalo Bills Will Rackley, Baltimore Ravens Jah Reid, Baltimore Ravens Rob Sims, Detroit Lions From that list, here's how I think things may look. Short-term Stop Gaps Mike McGlynn (29) - Eagles, Bengals, Colts & Chiefs Daryn Colledge (33) - Packers, Cardinals, & Dolphins last season Davin Joseph (31) - Bucs most of his career, Rams last season Rob Sims (31) - Seahawks & Lions John Jerry (28) - Dolphins most of his career, Giants last season Erik Pears (32) - Broncos, Raiders, Jaguars & Bills Questionable/Possibly Cheap/Under the Radar Mike Johnson (27) - Falcons - Has been in the NFL 5 seasons, but doesn't appear to have played either in 2013 or 2014. In 2014 he went on IR with a Lisfranc injury. IMO that leaves his future in question. Will Rackley(25) - He played in 2011 & 2013 for the Jaguars. He must have been on IR in 2012. The Ravens must have signed him as a FA, but he must have gone on IR again as his nfl.com profile doesn't list anything for 2014. Jah Reid - Ravens - Reid has been a backup, but the Ravens OL is pretty good so Reid might be better than anyone we have. James Brewer (27) - started 8 games in 2013, otherwise has been a backup and seen little action Here's the list of UFA RBs: Running backs Ahmad Bradshaw, Indianapolis Colts Ronnie Brown, San Diego Chargers Jonathan Dwyer, Arizona Cardinals Justin Forsett, Baltimore Ravens Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers Chris Johnson, New York Jets DuJuan Harris, Green Bay Packers Roy Helu, Washington Redskins Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders Joe McKnight, Kansas City Chiefs Knowshon Moreno, Miami Dolphins DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys Cedric Peerman, Cincinnati Bengals Bilal Powell, New York Jets Ray Rice, no team Stevan Ridley, New England Patriots Jacquizz Rodgers, Atlanta Falcons Antone Smith, Atlanta Falcons C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills (must void contract) Ben Tate, Pittsburgh Steelers Daniel Thomas, Miami Dolphins Shane Vereen, New England Patriots Leon Washington, Tennessee Titans Powell is probably the cheapest and the best at a cheap price. He's not great, but does everything well. Spiller knows Gailey's system and is still a homerun threat. He shouldn't be all that expensive. Vereen could be fairly cheap, but he has a fumbling problem. That can be fixed, but I'm not sure we want to risk going there.
didn't see Daryl Washington (ILB) or Walter Thurmond (nickel CB) mentioned here. both would be cheap. Washington is very familiar with Bowles from Ariz. Had a great 2013, before being suspended by league for all of 2014 due to league substance abuse policy. Thurmond was part of Seattle's 2013 championship, before signing with the Giants in 2014. He was placed on IR early in the season with the Giants. might be worth seeing if either can rebound.
Is Washington a free agent? He's obviously an ultra-talented guy, but he's been suspended a lot. I guess Bowles could either be sick of him or believe he could be a steal. Thurmound would be nice to take a low-cost flier on in addition to another higher end free agent if the Giants let him go
