If Mariota is sitting at the Jets pick...

If Mariota is sitting there at the Jets pick you'd....

  1. Pick him in a heart beat

  2. Swap with Philly for their 1st (#20) another pick in top 4 rounds and Foles

  3. Swap with any team with a top 20 pick, a 3rd or 4th rounder, and their next year 1st rounder

  4. Would swap, but it would take more than the offers in the poll

I think a big problem the Jets will have is they certainly have interest in Mariota. They don't have to draft him, but they would be likely to do so. This means that if another team wants him, they are going to have to make sure they get ahead of the Jets. I'm not sure I want/don't want him yet, but I really don't think he is going to fall to us.

My two favorite nonsensical strategies thrown out in these discussions.

"Let's get some playmakers this year and go get our franchise QB in 2016 or 2017."

"Let's draft a QB in the 4th round or later to groom as our franchise QB."

    It's just that easy, apparently.

I'd probably trade the pick away if that was an option, but I'd be ok if the Jets drafted him.

If the Jets aren't sold on Mariota I'd do that swap in a heartbeat.

The answer is the Eagles, Foles and a 3rd round pick and probably another one from next year. We would be dropping very far in the draft and while Foles softens that a little bit I think it would still take an early round pick next year

Cleveland is interested and they have 2 firsts. I'd trade the 6th to them for the 12th and 19th, then go Kevin White and a corner/OG

Id loveto take him and hold the Eagles hostage for Foles and a draft pick and make a trade.

None of this would matter. 31 teams know we need a QB, we are looking at all available QB's, so teams will feel the need to get in front of us if MM does slip. Us drafting one of these QB's is highly unlikely.

Only way I foresee a trade happening is if it is pre-draft, but teams will not want to take that chance unless they know he is slipping.

It's just not going to happen in my eyes.

It would be classic Jets for him to be sitting there and them passing on him for a defensive player.

I cant even imagine the uproar that would cause :D

We have new people from top to bottom in our organization now. I'm not expecting any stupid picks this time around. And I'm not ready to say i'd be willing to trade with the Eagles as of now because we still have to go through free agency. If QB is our only outstanding need left come draft day and Mariota is there, i'm taking Mariota. We have our own picks, which is at the top of every round might I add. we should be able to get one of the BPA's in each round.

We are going to waste every minute between now and the draft trying to figure out what to do if Mariota falls to us, and it isn't going to matter. The Raiders are two spots above us, have no need for a QB, and have about 50 holes in their roster-- somebody is going to trade up to that spot and snag him.

the good news is the draft isn't in NY this year so our fellow Jet fans won't be there to embarrass the fanbase even further.

    And I'm hoping it's us.

Do they want to be out of the Cooper sweepstakes by going to 20 or 12?

I have followed your viewpoint regarding MM (how could I not - your overwhelming support of him has gotten comical at this point) but this is pretty over the top.

You don't see how a comment like this makes it sound like MM is going to be the next Luck or Rodgers? It was obviously hyperbole - but I have to ask:

What would you consider a reasonable trade to give up the pick if MM is there? Assume a fantasy scenario where MM tells Macc on the sly that he would never play a down of football for the Jets because he loves Chip.

One of these cases in the order listed.

If both cases are not happening then take whoever the Jets have as the best player on the board.

I'd rather draft the QB or get the overload deal including a potential QB but if the Jets don't think Mariota has the goods and nobody is willing to trade up as if he does then they need to get the best player available on the 6.

If the Jets had followed the "must have a QB at all costs" approach in 2007 they'd have traded the farm to draft Brady Quinn.

Say the Redskins take Mariota at #5. Would you trade the #6 pick to the Redskins for RG3?
