Vinny had the best non-Namath season in 1998 and that's why the Jets went 12-2 in his starts, the best run ever by a Jets team in a single regular season. Chad and O'Brien were both banged up early in their careers and both had some real success but not sustainable. If you're going to include Sanchez in that list you have to include Richard Todd also. They both had about the same amount of success with the Jets.
Chad was the best in my era. Hands down. Shame he got injured - no doubt he gets us a SB if he stays healthy.
Vinny had the best season period That was the greatest individual season by a QB in Jets history in 1998 and Chad '02 was probably 2nd best.
If the measure was a single season, then obviously Vinny wins the poll, or should. But Vinny could not carry that season into succeeding years, and while it was terrible for him to go down in the beginning of the season, the simple fact is you can't help your team when you can't stay on the field, something Pennington fans don't seem to understand. So O'Brien is the obvious choice. I know the Jets did not win a playoff game with him, but it is a team game and there were other factors at work there. Such as Mark Gastineau. O'Brien also is hurt by the fact that the Jets passed over Dan Marino in picking him. But if you look at the poll Marino is not on it. Kenny was tough, but he did get a bit gunshy of the pass rush after taking too many sacks behind a relatively porous line. Still he avoided injuries for the most part, had all the throws, and scored from all over the field. He's the obvious choice here.
I can't put a guy who played in the easiest era in the AFC w/ the most talent around him that didn't have a single playoff win above Chad, Vinny or Sanchez.
Mark Gastineau prevented Kenny from leading his O to pts in playoff games? Kenny was tough and you bash others for durability(yet no mention of all Joe's injuries) but is it better to thrive when healthy and miss games or play through it and struggle like Kenny did?
has to be Pennington imo.. had the most going for him out of our QB's. good size, pocket presence, accuracy, intelligence, and character. it's the Jets curse he suffered so many injuries......especially the shoulder ones. a healthy Pennington i believe could have offered us quality football for a decade plus, and would have paired very well with Ryan.
The mere fact that Sanchez makes it into the conversation shows how terrible this organization has been with QBs. In a lot of cities a bust like him makes a different list. Does Kordell Stewart - 2 AFCG losses make it into the conversation for Steelers 2nd best QB?? of course not

He had some good defenses in his time here. The problem was that healthy period you refer to was only about a half of a season
Kordell played in a weak era for AFC football and in a weak division so he only needed to win 1 game to get to title game. In Kordell's 2 postseason wins his defense allowed a TOTAL of 9 points- both HOME games. 4.5 per game. The LEAST amount of points in our D allowed in ROAD playoff games w/ Mark was 14 points. the fact that you would compare him to Stewart tells us all we need to know. No one is calling Mark great but to continually crap on a guy who help us win a ton of games and get closer to a SB than any pt since SB III is just wrong and why the typical Jet fan sucks.
