I do too. without a doubt. I just think he gets too much praise RIGHT NOW, but really that's for another thread

Shoot.. I don't think he gets enough praise.. He is literally carrying a team of misfits on his back and taking them further and further into the playoffs every year.. Give them 2-3 years to put some pieces around him on offense and defense, and you have a serious contender in Indy.. But yes, we will end this discussion and get back to Marcus.

    And he played dreadfully.

By the way, Geno played in the Big East and Big 12. Not powerhouses.

Agreed.. But lets not compare that DE from Washington State trying to catch Mariota to Cameron Wake hunting Geno down twice a season.. Everyone looks great in college, its when you get to the NFL you see who really has it.

Mark Sanchez was a top five pick, Geno was a second round pick; why should the Jets treat Geno as if he is/was a first round pick? It's a known fact that first round picks get more chances... and IMO although Sanchez struggled in year four, unlike, Geno he improved in his second season and third seasons.

so you think there's absolutely no chance of him being a top 10-20 QB? even if we bring in a super stud WR like DT, or young promising star like Cooper, added to what IMO is a pretty decent core of WRs + Amaro? (remember our coaching staff before you say we don't). I think If we snagged a iupati our offense improves dramatically

So because Mariota has not played in the NFL you are going to downgrade him for that?

Here's a clue, no college QB first eligible for the draft has ever played in the NFL.

    It's a stupid argument, a red-herring.

Geno is not a smart guy and that will always be his limitation.

    Exactly my point. Thank you.

That defense had all our heads in the clouds.. We were so easy to overlook Sanchez's deficiencies..

Where do you get that Geno is not a smart guy? If you are a QB in the National Football League, you are smarter than most.

u think Sanchez is a better QB than Geno? That matters to me.. and whose to say sanchez wouldn't have dropped had we not traded up? geno's draft hype was bigger than Marks it appeared

Yes, if we surround him with MORE play makers and dumb down the offense to about 3 pages then yes he can absolutely become the 20th best QB in the NFL.

    Sounds like a plan.

From watching him play and seeing him unable to read defenses or anticipate what is happening around him. I'm sure he's a world class scholar but when I say dumb, I'm talking about his football IQ.

    lol @ the bolded 20...

but seriously, if you believe in systems and scheme fits... would you say Geno was misused ? I think he was, and when he gets a chance to throw the ball more than 5 yards he's not as bad as it seems.

if we had Matthew stafford running the west coast offense he might put up Geno smith numbers too.. Geno is a gun slinger, vertical guy, he even said himself last year at times he feels like a robot out there.. aka he's not comfortable!

Ok so now you're just revising history and adding in claims that can not be substantiated.

Hey guess what, had Idzik not drafted Geno maybe he drops to the 5th round.

    See how that works?

The guy has played less than 30 games in the NFL! Let me see you go out there and shred defenses in Year 2. Went from playing in the Big 12 where the defense might as well stand on the sideline, to playing against Belicheck twice a year.

Sanchez is better than Geno ans it isn't even close(that's not saying much). Sanchez's rookie season was terrible, but he improved tremendously his second season. Geno didn't show any improvement from a mental or mechanical standpoint, as a matter of fact , he MAY have regressed this season. Geno was never a good prospect, the offense he played in cotained zero pro concepts(Mariota's offense does to a certain extent) and his stats came off of bubble screen throws to Steadmen Bailey and Tavon Austin. He metled under pressure, didn't see the field well , and displayed inconsistent footwork and accuracy. The Jets had TO trade up, because there was no in hell Sanchez was falling to 18.

He doesn't deserve more time, he WAS a second round and hasn't improved. This is the IS same guy who threw three consecutive picks against the Bills. He's terrible and Jet fans don't deserve the pain of watching Geno Smith start at QB this season.
