You need bounces. If bounces or calls don't go your way it gets tough. Patriots avoided a clear intentional grounding call at one point.
There were 20 secs left after the INT, if ball kicked in play(NE had a bunch of KORs) that shaves off a few more seconds. asking to throw downfield w/ just 15 secs or so to get into FG range is asking a lot.
I was shocked Collinsworth missed that one. Brady clearly grounded the ball from the middle of the pocket and there was no receiver in the vicinity. It was an easy of a call as an official will ever have, yet it was missed and not even brought up by the commentators. Lockette is also pretty clearly tripped on a key 3rd down and no-call is made. These calls didn't decide the game, but to me it ends up being another subpar performance for the refs.
Every NFL game is a subpar one by the refs. It's pathetic. I knew it was going to be another pathetic one as soon as the refs missed the obvious, textbook, no judgement roughing the kicker call on the first drive of the game.
I have to say I really don't think it was that great a play, When you throw a quick slant right throw the middle of the line, at the goal line, into the heart of the defense, the pass is most likely to be defensed, if not intercepted. When you factor in the variables ( pressure, Wilson's height, the receiver) a completion is the lowest likelhood to occur. So, I give him credit for making the play, especially under the heated circumstances, but you can't call it the stupidest play of all time and then said he made a great play. He made the play because the call was so stupid, there wasa higher likelihood of failure than success
from where he started when that pass was thrown and the aggressiveness to take that ball, it was an outstanding play.
I guess not, we are talking about 2 different things then. you say Sea didn't run clock when obviously they did, you are saying they have 26 secs even if they score and that wasn't true. I don't know what you are trying to say.
I'm saing Seattle didn't run the clock, they ran a play and Belichek let htem. I haven't looked at the game film, like you must have, to know the time frames. I thought there was about 26 seconds. I can assure you that NE would not have allowed any time to tick off on the kick-off, that's for sure But here's what I'm really saying... I don't believe the Belichek choked under pressure and forgot to call a time out. Do you?
I have to respectfully disagree. I definitely get the dangers of throwing to the middle but to sniff out the play before the snap because of the formation on the goal line, and the great jam that Browner got on Kearse ... but he beat the receiver to that spot and snatched that ball away because he had that extra step from the mental preparation. I always say the games are won during the week but Sunday is the performance. I think that guy who played only 14 snaps to that point in the playoffs being that familiar with film is really an amazing thing, as well as the physical battle that he needed.
That is the play you are put into a position to make when presented with that opportunity. So I give him credit for doing it, but no more credit htan I would give a lineman for shedding a man to man block and tackling the back fo no gain
No, he wanted to force them to throw if not on 2nd down then on 3rd and 4th. It's like poker... anything was a gamble but he took the one with the best odds and hoped it'd play out.
Listen, you give him credit for making the play. Under the circumstances of the game and given his limited experience, he is to be commended. But it was not a great play. The play was right there for him. If he doesn't make it, it's because he wasn't doing his job. Then he becomes Ha-Ha Clinton Dix on the 2pt play in the Seahawks-Packers game. Thank you for your respect but it seems to me you Pats fans are so concerned with getting your props that you don't see the forrest for the trees. Let me give you an analogy. I'm a Mets fan. I haven't spent one second of my life trying to argue that Mookie Wilson would've beaten Stanley to the bag if Buckner had fielded the ball.
I hear ya, that's why I said I respectfully disagree. The case can definitely be made your way as well, it all comes down to opinion... and it's certainly possible I'm letting my bias here cloud my judgment but believe it or not I love the sport of football more than any one team so I definitely make efforts to at least try to not do that. Saw a crazy stat earlier. This season saw 108 passing plays run from the 1 yard line by teams. 64 times (or somewhere around there) was a TD. 44 times (or so) was an incomplete pass. Intercepted just once, last night.
Why were you shocked that Collinsworth missed that call? He spent the entire game missing them. He's a tool.
I was on the fence on this but now I'm convinced.... you're an idiot. If Butler and Browner don't read that play pre-snap it's a walk in touchdown. He had to get around Kearse and Browner and beat the receiver to the spot. It was not just a good play, it was a great play.
