You'll need to elaborate about connection between "more pick = more chances" and "Mac is luckier than Idzik"... 'cause I see no logical connection between the two.
And that's fine! If our FO is in love with either and he is available -- take your shot. In my opinion, both have ?? and so if Eagles want to give something rich, I'd take the picks.
I thought this thread is about QBs, not GMs? You determine who is good/bad QB by developing and evaluating him over 1-2 years following the draft. You determine who is good/bad GM by counting how many productive player he drafted... however and whenever you want to determine "productive".
Yes and Russell Wilson is one out of multitude of 3rd round QBs that have become true franchise QBs. Maybe Montana 30 years ago? Give me the other 3rd round QBs that have become true franchise QBs out of the dozens and dozens and dozens that have been drafted in the third round over the years. _
Passing on QBs because they have ?? is a recipe for continued failure by the franchise to win a SB. Luck and Peyton and Elway come around every 15 years and THEN you have to be lucky enough to have the first pick to get them. Passing on one of these guys to gather talent elsewhere means you don't have a shot at a franchise QB. More Geno. More Matt Simms. More uninspiring free agents and JAGS. More looking at QBs NEXT year with even MORE ?? _
right, I must be drunk. I mean, he's one year removed from a 27 TD - 2 INT season and pro bowl MVP but he's garbage not even worthy of a 7th round pick. You sound like you know what you're talking about, must watch ESPN a lot.
Besides Wilson--here's the list of 3rd round QBs dating back to 1986: Mike Glennon Nick Foles Ryan Mallet Colt McCoy Kevin O'Connell Trent Edwards Charlie Whitehurst Brodie Croyle Charlie Fry Andrew Walter David Green Matt Schaub Dave Ragone Chris Simms Josh McCown Giovani Carmazzi Chris Redman Brock Huard Jonathan Quin Brian Griese Bobby Hoying Stoney Case Eric Zier Billy Joe Hobert Tom Hodson Peter Tom Willis Neil O'Donnell Anthony Dilweg Eric Wilhelm Chris Chandler Cody Carlson Bubby Brister Hugh Millen That's 33 QBs besides Wilson and how many of them do you consider TRUE franchise QBs. I see maybe 3 guys at best that had some success in the league and none of it sustained for any lengthy career, certainly no one you'd call an All-Pro at any point in their career. You have maybe 5-6 pro-bowls total on that list. It's very underhelming. _
It doesn't have to be Wilson or Montana. I'll take Kaepernick, Dalton, Foles, Romo, Brees -- any one is upgrade at QB for the Jets.
Is for both. However this is about QBs, not GMs. Why are you switching "Mariotta vs. picks" to "Mac vs. Idzik"?
It wasn't his best game - I would recommend checking out Cook's games against Ohio State via Draft Breakdown they are pretty decent. I agree he's no Winston, Teddy or Carr - I like those guys more than Cook. Cook won't be an elite QB, but neither is Joe Flacco or Carson Palmer when he was healthy for the Bengals prior to tearing his knee. I'm looking at these QBs and I think to myself can you win with them? Cook doesn't make a lot of mistakes, sure he might overthrow receivers or miss them - but he doesn't make a lot of mistakes that lead to turnovers. Petty is interesting, he was on a roll against MSU - I'm looking forward to Petty's game in the Senior Bowl - if he does well, it's possible he creeps into the late first round early 2nd.
Go back and show me where I said I LOVED him. Of all the QBs last year he was the one I saw the least. I saw 2 games and looked at his skillset and how he rocketed up the boards out of no where. I would not have been upset had we drafted him and I still think he could become a very good QB. Same with Manziel. Same with Mettenberger. Same with Garrapolo. Probably watched Mett the most out of those guys. For the past 3 years I have LOVED (1) Teddy, (2) Mariota and (3) Carr in that order. Everyone else was in a different category for me. I would have dated them but not married them. _
exactly, if Chip wants him he'll trade up higher than 6. If we want him, we'll also have to trade up higher than our 6. personally i would just draft him should he become available, or even trade up a pick or two to get it done. also agreed on Winston. don't like him at all.
How could you not be upset if we drafted Bortles? He's terrible. Still think he and Manziel can be very good? I guess there's always a chance but for now I think that severely dilutes the worth of your opinions on upcoming qb's. If you say you like almost everybody then it doesn't mean much when you say you love this guy or that guy.
Jets arent getting Mariota unless they want to trade up IMO. If Tampa and Tennessee both want the QB's, the Jets obviously have no shot. They wont be trading out of their positions. There will more than likely be other teams trading up to 4 to get Mariota if he happens to fall past 2. Teams will be trying to jump Jets and Washington. Oakland will jump all over one of those trades if it nets them additional firsts (which it will). Jets will probably only have a to fork over a second and maybe a swap of fourths or something like that. If they really like Mariota they should make that move. I wouldnt, but maybe the Jets feel good about Mariota.
Not true. Bortles isn't terrible. Jags front office love him and the fans like him too. He's their futureā¦for the next couple years and maybe, longer if he continues to show improvement.
Who whoa whoa. First of all, I don't think the book is written on either of those two guys and it would not shock me if one or the other becomes a player in this league. But as for liking everyone and that diluting my opinion--I hated Manuel and Geno and Glennon and Barkley and Nassib and Wilson and Jones and Sorenson and Dysert and Savage and Thomas and Wenning and Gilbert. I STILL like McCarron and it wouldn't shock me if Fales hung around a while in this league. Unlike 2013, 2014 was stocked with QB talent--sorry, that's the way I see them. _
