The new regime is in place. What do you do with $50 million in cap space?

Because their qb is one of the best in the league and making less than a million dollars. As soon as he gets paid, they are going to have to let a lot of huge pieces walk. Douzable, snacks, Sheldon, and Coples are more than enough. Wilk is a great player but if you can get a ransom for him you do it.

Why break up the one strength the team has? They have enough space to pay him and be players in FA. This team will have plenty of cap space till you find a real QB. That's when you have to be careful with the money you give out. Until that day pay the good players you have.

seattle letting huge pieces walk? not really… I mean some guys will walk, but they've given a healthy amount of extensions to the legion and others already, i sure with the idea of paying wilson 20 mil plus a yearn mind.

they've got their core locked up for the most part, just need to keep that last piece...

though it helps that they do seem to have a strong amount of rotational low cost signings contributing and supporting their well paid core of players. for instance their secondary might look like Sherman, Chancellor, Thomas, insert cheaper other corner here for the next 3-4 years. they may already have maxwells replacement.

and, I damn disagree with the notion that we should trade wilkerson…. i think he's our lynchpin, a high quality cornerstone for this defensive line in bowles system. he's kind of irreplaceable….

Trading Wilkerson after Revis would be trading our best player twice in a few years. Shows absolutely no loyalty, terrible idea and I can't imagine it happening.

Douzable is a guy that might be happy with a 3 mil two year deal, he's a backup through and through, one without a lot of special value. he can stay easy or go easy.

Coples… is a weird case due to his usage. unless he gets a Houston style 20 sack year he may not make the big bucks as much Mo or sheldon will.

HE might be able to play the role backup/rotational starter at Douzables behest… and do it ALOT better. Bowles will switch to a 4-3 sometimes and is a big blitzer, I don't know if he sees Coples as an OLB or what but he'll get his reps, probably not out right replacing the sons though.

Something tells me he's a 4-6 mil a year guy rather than a double digit player. I don't even think his 5th year option gets exercised. (likely worth 7 million)

For those who like the switch for Idzik to Maccagnan....I totally get it.

I like a lot of it too. Maccagnan is a personnel guy and Idzik was an accountant. Maccagnan has to be careful managing the Cap number even though he is smart personnel-wise.

The problem here is...if you're thinking that Maccagnan will go on a Free Agent Frenzy because he's different from Idzik.....You're Utterly Wrong.

Maccagnan is a guy who, LIKE IDZIK, builds solely through the draft and is not a free agent spender. Whether this is good or bad news to you....the Jets may have the same problems when it comes to not spending money on guys in Free Agency.

You suffer with Geno Smith. I think the new FO doesn't want to. There are other QBs who are better and Mac/Bowles will find them. Just watch what happens.

    how do you know that?

honestly I hope he builds that way, but theres very little in the way of knowing what kind of gm he'll be.

Reports of close friends have said this of Maccagnan and I believe he was quoted somewhere saying that.

Quit talking as if you personally know Big Mac. He hasn't ever been a GM before, so NO ONE knows what he will do. His philosophy might be to build through the draft, but he's not stupid, and I doubt that he leaves such a big surplus as Idzik. He may not sign a bunch of big name FAs, but if nothing else, precisely because he wants to build through the draft, he's liable to sign a number of lower tier FAs to fill holes so that his hand isn't tipped when it comes to the draft, or he isn't forced to have to reach for a position out of need.

I think he will try to lock up Wilk, sign whatever other Jets FAs he wants to keep, and then will seek to fill holes and improve depth via FA.

For me our priority goes as follows

    CB1
    QB
    ROG
    OLB
    FS
    LOG
    RB
    TE

Mac n Bowles have a tall task this offseason!

Some of you people are too picky and still brainwashed by Idzik... snap out of it... We have all this money.. and all these needs. If we even get Houston in our building throw the bank at him. Same for Iupati. 2 guys entering their prime that fit our systems and are beyond a need. You guys think that just because we have a good DL we shouldn't go all out for a great pass rusher? Our Revis and Cromartie days are over (at least young healthy cromartie..he may return) We probably won't ever have the lock down corners we once had. Houston helps that issue, a pressured QB makes a CB's job easier. He'd help disguise a flaw in our defense. And nobody running our offense is going to want to use Ivory conservatively. He's an angry runner that plows his way through tackles...Iupati will help his cause A LOT. I think they are worth big $$$
