This team needs a veteran at the position in the worst way. A mid round rookie CB isn't going to fix anything. Rookie CBs get picked on, especially mid-round rookie CBs. McDougle if he can ever stay healthy can fill that role - the mid-round rookie that gets torched week in and week out to develop. Milliner is still very young and injury prone. He needs a veteran that he can lean on and learn the tricks of the trade. The secondary as a whole could use a veteran talent at the position to shore up weaknesses, gain confidence for the young guys and also be a teacher to the young players. Don't be afraid to spend money at the position.
milliner is and will be our #1 for years to come.. unless it's revis, I don't see anybody we bring in taking his spot.
We need so much offensive help (QB, multiple O-Line positions, maybe a receiver) and people here want to blow over $20m on two cornerbacks? Thank God none of you are GMs.
It's going to take time for some jet fans to detox from the Rex kool aid. I don't have a problem picking an OLB with the 6th pick, that will help us to get rid of Pace and put Coples back on the DL. Honestly I think we are going to be picking an offensive lineman or an OLB, both Qbs, as well as Cooper, will be taken before jets select.
I would rather steal olomu in the 3rd that peters in the 2nd.. I mean if peters is there we take him in the 2nd... Peters has talent but has an attitude problem.. I have more confident in olomu's knee being fixed that peters attitude.. but I would be happy if we got either
don't quote me but somewhere I read maccagnan has never taken an OL in th 1st round??? not saying he won't.. I like shane ray olb from Missouri with the #6 pick.. Then a tackle in the 2nd or 3rd round depending which round we do not take a corner.. Daryl Williams from Oklahoma is my pick
We had one. But most of the idzik slurpers praised dumping him, and now he's in New England playing in a Super Bowl.....
Its an embarassment that Revis may kiss the Lombardi trophy as a Patriot,Its crazy but its the orginizations fault. He never wanted to leave and he wanted to come back last year.Idzik could have looked like the greatest general manager of all time if he would have been able to bring Revis back after the trade...he would probably still have his job to.
Waste of money? How can you waste money with 50 million to burn? I guess your uniformed but guys like Cro will be getting 1 year deals. Anyone wanting him to be a #1 at his age is clueless. And if you watched any games last season you would know corner is just as big if not bigger than o-line or a pass rush.
tramon Williams is a year older than Cromartie and he seemed like a #1 corner to me. I think what everyone is saying is there are other ways to spend that money. Bring cro back at a 1-2 year deal. He will be a hell of a corner for the price. Draft a corner in the 1st or 2nd round to complete the position. Let bowles properly develop guys like millner, mcdougle, Williams and whoever we draft. No sense in spending all our money in corners when we have a very talented young group with potential. Cro is a solid short term option while the other four are developing. If millner is healthy I feel he could be a #1 guy. Use our money to bring back our guys and address other issues like the o line, rushing olb, and a runningback like spiller
Who? As far as I'm concerned the best corner on our team right now is Marcus Williams and if that's our plan going into the season were in trouble. We won't be taking a corner at 6 and if we try and rely on another mid round pick we'll be in the same situation as last year. Milliner? He's coming off a torn Achilles which hardly any corner comes back from and before that didn't he exactly light up the field. So on my count we have 0 corners. Cro on a one year deal and another guy like Jackson or Maxwell on a 1-3. 50 million dollars and were acting like we have to choose? There are no corners that will break the bank. 2 corners on cheap low risk deals and a big OL signing still leaves 35 million.
Lol I know,This notion that we have "a group of corners" with potential is a joke.Look at the two teams playing in the Superbowl. This is the best secondary the Pats have had in years and we all know about the Sehawks secondary. The guys we have at corner can barley deliver a snoopy bowl.
DL? Since we almost always agree, I have to assume that you're speaking more hypothetically. If not, please forgive my misreading your intent. IMO using another pick on the DL would be akin to just throwing it away. Unless the Jets plan to trade Harrison or Wilkerson (and I hope the don't!) for a pick or picks, they have absolutely no needs on the DL at all. Forget BPA/BAP in that instance. If the BAPs at any one pick are Dlmen, then the Jets need to make every every to trade down or trade that pick for a future draft pick. That's not to say that there aren't any quality DL in this draft, because there are, but with Wilk, Richardson & Snacks, the Jets starting DL is set for the next 5 years or so, and possibly 10 years. If they keep Coples and Ellis, depth isn't a problem, either. I don't recall how old Douzable is, but think he's probably good for another 1-2 years, maybe more. There are usually older vet FA DL fairly cheaply to function as depth. With pressing needs at QB, OLB, ILB, FS, OG, OT, WR, and TE, there should be plenty of good players the Jets could take over a DL. Hopefully CB will be addressed in FA, but I'd rather use another high pick on a CB rather than a DL. The RB position could also be upgraded. This is an amazing draft for RBs. Gordon, Abdullah, Gurley and the Duke kid from Miami are all amazing, and there are several others from Auburn, So. Cal, Boise St. and another school or two that I don't know anything about yet, but are supposed to be very good. If Gailey is the OC and the Jets don't retain Chris Johnson or Harvin, they need a fast, elusive, play-making RB for the screens he loves to run. He also loves 4-WR sets. At present, the Jets have Decker, Kerley, Harvin, and maybe Salas. The latter two may not even still be on the team. At least one other quality WR needs to be added to the team. I guess Amaro could take the place of one WR, but what about depth? Aside from extending Wilk and re-signing Snacks, Ellis and Douzable, I don't see any FA $s or picks that should be used on the DL this year.
To blame a guy trying to get the most money he can is stupid. Revis was at the age when most NFL players trying to get the most money he can. You get paid as much as u can early in your career and chase the ring later in your career.
You can expand beyond just the 2 teams in the Super Bowl and look at the final 4 teams. They all invested greatly in their secondaries.
I hope that you're wrong about both QBs and Cooper being gone, but fear that you're probably right. If you are then Ray or Gregory should be there, and that would probably make the most sense, unless the Jets really like one of the OTs and see him as the successor at LT to Brick.
