I like him but he just sustained a serious injury (suspected ACL) so i think he becomes one of those "value pick" players, which after recent history kinda scares me, but if he makes it to round 3 or 4, you have to pull the trigger.
Someone post the youtube of Marcus Peters shutting down Brandon Cook last year in the midst of his prolific season as it's not working for me. I posted the link below. I wish there was video of the Arizona St game when he a Jaelen Strong went at it. EDIT: It's working.
I like Marcus Peters as well. if we don't land him in the 2nd and we get olomu in the 3rd id still take the risk on him. if he recovers nicely that's a steal in the 3rd round
Agreed But right now it's hard to trust Milliner to stay on the field. He's had a lot of injuries. Achillies injuries in particular are no joke. The Jets have to have a backup plan in place (especially after witnessing this seasons disaster at the position). I'd be looking to bring in 2 CB's who are capable of starting.
We need to bring in two quality vet cbs like Cro, Maxwell, Kareem Jackson etc. Mix them in with the youth of Dee, McDougal and Williams and we should be ok at CB.
I'm watching how Maccagnan treats this position with interest. It might be the biggest indicator of what sort of GM we're getting. If he grabs, say, Maxwell and Cro I'm worried that he's not looking long-term and the cap might become a big issue a few years down the road. If he just brings in hold-the-fort guys, then he's not thinking short-term and risks repeating Idzik's mistakes. I'd like somewhere in between ideally. Maybe Cro and an Idzik-type low-price guy to be a fall back solution. There isn't going to be an answer that satisfies everyone.
That would be a tremendous waste of money in my eyes. Cro will be the 2nd best CB we sign?? No, this team needs offensive line help and a pass rush before we even look at the CB position.
how much do you think Byron will cost? i reallly think we should make a run at DT if he hits the open market. 1) he loves playing with eric decker and are basically brothers 2) He is a true #1 WR (So is decker, but DT is the full package) 3) If we restructe harvin i think we will have the best WR core in the league. Maybe even without Harvin but i want to keep him
True, he might be an option. I think the draft is weak at CB though so I wouldn't completely rely on it for a #1 press corner...
I would move up to get him in the bottom third of round one. If we bring back Cro and draft Peters our CB problems are solved.
They'd have to trade Milliner and keep the 30 year old vet in that situation most likely. Signing the vet is going to produce a significant cap hit 2 years down the road because the bonus you paid him is going to come due against the cap immediately at 2/4 or 3/5 depending on the number of years you signed him for. It's just not a good idea to go out and invest in a #1 vet CB at top dollar unless the Jets know Milliner is not likely to work out, something they can't know at this point. Finding a suitable vet stopgap is not a bad idea but you want that guy at $3-5M a year depending on his skills, not at $8-10M. If we were in a last-piece scenario for a Super Bowl run the situation might be different but we're nowhere near that. The Jets need to find a QB before they try to add in a secondary piece in the puzzle.
If they could somehow draft Jameis and a starting CB that would be ideal. Don't forget that Todd Bowles was a player in the secondary and was a DB coach for most of his career. If there's anyone that will solve the DB problem it's him. I think Todd could get the most out of Calvin Pryor and Antonio Allen. Rex Ryan sucked at drafting CBs. (see first rounders Kyle Wilson, Dee Milliner) Revis was a Mangini pick and Cromartie was already a proven player when they signed him. I wouldn't be upset if Todd drafted another CB, because I feel like he could properly develop him. We'll have to see what he thinks of Dee Milliner, but I would bet Bowles would try to spend another year or two developing him.
I see no way that Peters falls to the 3rd round. I think there's a great chance that he will be a first round pick, but if not, an early second round pick. If the Jets didn't have so many needs on offense and for a real pass rusher, I'd love to draft Peters, but they do. I think the Jets need to address the CB position in FA and the only possible draft picks they use on D be at OLB and/or FS.
