I'm not dissing Landry. If he's our DB we got no chance. He's average, at best. Let him go to Buffalo and interpret for Rex up there. We need better than him. He's somewhat of a leader, but he's an average player. We need a player back there, a spearhead...something they were hoping Pryor might be.
Pryor could end up being a solid SS but we really need a true cover safety and there may be a few in FA. Tired of this stuff with Rex trotting 2 strong safeties out there for the past 6 years. Still can't believe we pass on Honey Badger, he would have been perfect.
Exactly. Landry missing tackles, Erik Smith's ass chasing after people, before that. It's a mess back there. Bring in a guy, and hopefully Pryor, McDougle, Allen, Millener, etc. progress. A guy to spearhead that group...Bring in Cro too!

Yea, I want to see what McDougle can do. Freak injury and everyone forgets he's on the team. If Milliner has a healthy season and McDougle plays about where I think he can, signing a veteran FA for the CB position would be a waste of cash. We still need a QB, multiple offensive linemen (LT, LG, RG), a WR.
How do you make decision about someones career based off only 2 seasons? Do we not draft players to develop anymore? Are we expecting all players to hit the field at pro bowl levels or they are busts?? Im not seeing a better option than Geno right now, and to me he gets a chance to show he can improve with competent coaching, and team building. Same with Milliner, McDougal, and Shaq Evans.....let our draft picks develop before we are ready to label them busts. With that being said though, dont be surprised to see Matt Simms start looking like an NFL quarterback in Chan Gailey's system. The guy has the tools....imo
My optimism includes the assumption that Geno Smith will not be the starting quarterback in 2015. A new GM and Coach will not want him in the starting role. If he somehow is the starter: yes, my excitement would go down BIG TIME. Haha.
the thing about this is, there is not a lot of options available that are going to be a marked upgrade to geno. the f.a. qb market is so bad sanchez is going to be considered qb1 or 2 available. blanket statements that if geno is starting the new regime is messing up without taking into consideration what the other alternatives might be is being a bit shortsighted,i.m.o.

lol you are not dissing Landry, but say we have no chance if he's a starting S? that sure sounds like dissing him. He's definitely a leader, but i would also agree he's an average player. Won't make many big plays for you, but also won't make many negative plays. He actually graded out as the 9th best S in league according to PFF. 85 tackles, couple sacks, not one penalty called on him. He had a very solid, reliable, albeit unspectacular, year. Literally everyone else in our secondary had poor years, so i just find it a bit odd to single out the one guy who had a good year. The decision on Landry to me depends on the plans for Pryor. Landry is better off playing more of a SS role. Pryor may need to play the same role, as he really struggled as the single high S. If we can pick up a better FS, and move Pryor around more, i'd be game for that. The stud DB available in FA is Revis.....that's the guy who will improve the entire secondary.
we've got to pick up a journeyman type QB. Fitzpatrick, Moore, Hoyer.... someone who can manage a game if need be. that doesn't excite in any way, but may just end up our starter unless Geno (or even Simms) shows a lot of improvement in offseason. if we draft a guy (which i hope we do), i wouldn't plan on anything but them learning for a year.
i agree, spending slightly less on Franklin seems the more shrewd move. guess it depends on the type of O they want to run. Iupati is an impressive road grader, but Franklin is by far the better pass protector. I'd be happy with either.
If I am not mistaken Revis signed a two year contract with the Pats last year. Therefore, the Pats are the front-runner to have Revis next year - assuming that they can renegotiate the contract terms for 2015 downward (I think he has a $20M cap hit this year).
true, he's still under contract. 25M cap hit, 20M freed up if they release him. obviously they cannot keep him at that number. What they do have is essentially first dibs on negotiation. I fully expect the Pats to work hard at keeping him. just crossing my fingers that he at least leaves that organization.
There's no way he renegotiates. He'll make way more money on the free market than on a reduced salary from the Pats; and he has all the leverage, since he essentially makes $25 million if he refuses to negotiate and they don't release him. Knowing his agents, Revis will continue to be a mercenary. To maximize his value next year, he's gonna leave the Pats.
Here's hoping you are right. I can see the Pats offering him 14M though. He's had a tremendous impact on their D. would he turn that down just to test the waters in FA? maybe..
Psychologically, I think Revis still won't settle for less than $16 million a year. He took 0 guaranteed money with the Bucs so he could make $16 million. He created a weird, 2nd-year $25 million option that he would never get just so he could technically make $32 over 2 years (or $16 million a year). I think he'll take $14 million but not unless he averages $16 million or more over the course of his contract. That's why the Pats won't restructure, IMO. Another team will take on his (or his agent's) craziness.
