Michael Irvin laughed when he was asked if Chain Gailey was a good coordinator on the radio

Irvin was clearly a freak specimen with incredible on the field talent, to match his zero off the field talent and the last to assess the football savvy or intelligence of any coordinator at any level. Many more would laugh if asked what do you think about that loud mouth pee brain analyst.
To boot, He was at the end of his career in Dallas and I'm sure he did not like Gailey' s assessment of his true worth to the team at that time.

I am on board with Chan the man.

You can't just look at rankings. You have to watch the games. His offenses were pretty fun to watch. With Spiller, Fred Jackson, and Stevie Johnson, they would move the ball up and down the field until Fitzpatrick's inevitable fumble or force INT into triple coverage.

The best coaches adapt their scheme to fit the strengths of the players they are given. And based on what Cowher has said, Chan excels at doing just that.

You can't expect any OC to have a top 5 or even top 10 offense with Ryan "Fitzmagic" pulling the trigger.

Take Tom Brady away from NE and what you have is Josh McDaniels OC'ing the Rams. McDaniels looks like solid gold because it's all Brady and Belichick.

Same thing with John Fox in my opinion. I always thought he was pedestrian to slightly above average at best.

I agree. Perhaps most importantly, being a former HC and having a lot of experience, Gailey should be a great asset for Bowles.

Maybe, but that won't be any different than it has been for seemingly forever.

If nothing else, I'm excited to see the Jets actually successfully complete a screen pass. They have sucked at that for so long. If the Jets keep Harvin and/or add Spiller, that will be a big yardage play for us. I think that adding Gailey is a good move in that he has skill in developing QBs and with his having been a HC before it should help Bowles avoid some mistakes.

It's nice to hear an intelligent assessment. There are a lot of posters on the Bills board who are ridiculing the move and calling him Chan Failey.

At the same time they are jumping up and down at the Rex hire. Seems a bit strange to me when you can make the argument that they both are HC failures.

But as an OC I think Gailey's track record is not too bad. I would much rather have him over Roman.

The surprising thing is reportedly Bowles never worked with Gailey. Of course they might know each other and maybe talked football, etc. You have to wonder why he chose Gailey since most of his other appointments are guys he knows and coached with over the years. Could be Casserly or Wolf recommended Gailey or maybe Arias or someone else Bowles might have gone to for advice. I still haven't seen an official announcement but if so probably a good choice. I hope he doesn't bring Fitz in.

Sorry about the lack of punctuation. A period might of helped get my thoughts across. I agree. I don't want either of them.

We ranked 22nd overall in total offense ,averaged 17 pts a game witch left us in the bottom 5 in that category.I'm hoping he can get us up to averaging 24 pts a game that would give us a top 10 offense

I don't like that he has been out of football the last 2 years, and I don't like that he wasn't very successful when he was.

If Chan can just improve our red zone offense we immediately jump to an average offensive ball club.

Just becoming an average offensive team will be a significant improvement.

Chan Gailey might not be a slam dunk for the Jets' offensive coordinator spot. The announcement was made by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
