I'm upset today. I'm upset that the Jets have Chan Gailey as an offensive coordinator ... because I'm a Bills fan. Chan Gailey can coach offense with the best of them. He got Ryan Fitzpatrick a $50 mill contract because of his scheme. He turned Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller into one of the best RB tandems in the league. He turned 7th rounder Stevie Johnson into a stud. His screen game is unmatched. I don't care who you name, Chan's screen schemes are better. And don't get me started on his zone blocking schematics. Absolutely fantastic. Marrone had 4 of the same 5 Offensive Linemen as Chan --- Marrone's OL was terrible, Chan's was fantastic. He has his downsides too. Throwing on 3rd and inches instead of just jamming the ball down the throat of the defense. Being in shotgun 80% of the time. Etc. People can point to his "average" rankings on offense while with the Bills, but look at the talent he had. He turned chicken shit into chicken salad all 3 years he was here. But I would have much preferred you had hired Marrone as Head Coach than Gailey as OC. If anyone is going to get production out of Geno, it's him.
(edit) We just saw this movie starring Marty with the pass happy stuff... Hopefully he's not quite so kamikaze on 3rd downs.
All my Eagle buddies warned me about MM. They were right. I'm hoping this guy is right about Gailey except for the kamikaze passing stuff on 3rd and short.
Every coach in the NFL has their downsides. Even the best of them. Chan will frustrate you at times. He is in shotgun A LOT. 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down. Shotgun, shotgun, shotgun. And the 3rd and inches, throwing 40 yard hail mary's was frustrating too. But his schemes to get his WR's open and his RB's space in the open field is just so good that in my opinion it outweighs the negatives. The Bills had such crap for talent on offense when he was here. If only we had something for him to work with.
Get Percy Harvin into open space and we are going to be fine. Harvin opens up the entire offense when he's clicking. If Gailey can do that, I think we're going to find some success.
Early to judge any moves, but my early impressions are good about all of those hired thus far. They got a defensive-minded head coach, which is great to keep this as a very good defense, but also a seemingly great mind at OC with the ability to get the most of out his players... Exactly what is needed for Geno or whomever plays QB here
Has there ever been an OC anywhere who left town leaving behind satisfied fans? The OC is the designated scapegoat on every NFL franchise. You have to score points to win and eventually every offense falls apart and then the OC sucks and he always sucked and the horse that he rode in on sucked and so forth and so on. Right?
I just hope we try to restructure Harvin rather than pay him the full $10.5 million he's due. Unfortunately we don't have any cap experts on this team anymore, so I'm willing to bet we just give him the money.
Jesus fucking Christ. Chan "Monday Night Debacle" Gailey? Are you fucking KIDDING ME!?!?!?!?!? Say what you want - his offense has been known for CHOKING at every fucking imaginable crunch time. EVERY TIME.
I like everything that we have done this off season but imma be upset if we pay a guy who won't even play 16 games 10.5 mil
As someone that endured both Paul Hackett and Schotty, I've seen my share of OC's that shall we say, left us wanting. MM will be no different.
Not sure I believe this but I want to believe it. But it was insane to give Fitz that kind of a contract.,
Bill fans seemed to like Chan Gailey. Only problem was Gailey didn't have a whole lot to work with there. But, you're right.
Gailey was the head coach at Buffalo not the OC. I actually like the hire. He's the older voice of experience who's been to the wars and understands what a head coach goes through as he makes the decisions that are going to float the boat or sink it. Bowles is not a young guy but this is his first major gig as a HC and he'll have Gailey's perspective to rely on if things get tight at any point and in NY they're going to get tight sooner or later. I really hope Bowles goes out and gets a strong DC, not somebody to clerk for him on defense. It'll be very good watching the HC be the HC and only the HC for a change.
