Come on these are personal attacks. You might not like Idzik but this is over the line. The idea that he wouldn't consult with anybody so he got all the credit is bogus.
Saying he didn't want to consult with others is not a personal attack. Saying he didn't want to consult with others to keep the glory to himself is not a personal attack if it's true. The truth is often ugly, that doesn't make sharing it a personal attack.
Rex had his flaws and I'm fine with a change, but if this idiot owner thinks we're ever going to the SB with Doug Marrone as the coach, he's even more lost than I thought. Doug Marrone ... 25-25 at Syracuse, and 15-17 with the Bills. Are you fucking kidding me Woody?? Give me ANY top level coordinator as my first-time head coach over this guy. Give me Quinn. Give me Bowles. Give me Reich. Give me Gase ... ANY one of them over Marrone. He doesn't have the balls of a champion, and you can't grow them on the job. NO THANKS.
It's funny how everyone says nice things about him - but what player goes on the record to destroy a coach? I respect the hell out of Curtis Martin but what's he going to say about his offensive line coach? Same with Kevin Mawae and Damien Woody. I dislike Manish as much as the next guy but I agree the Marrone stuff doesn't pass the smell test. Bill Belicheck clowned Charlie Casserly and for good reason. While I respect the man, why is he pushing "his guy" on us and not "the best guy" for NYJ? Marrone hated the Buffalo media what will he think of the pricks in NYC? Marrone was savvy hiring Schwartz as his defensive coordinator but that's about all I can say. I've read he's conservative as hell - Herm Edwards deja vu? Even Paul Hackett's kid is connected to this BS - remember his father's brilliant playcalling?
That's exactly it. How on earth are we supposed to improve our offense by bringing in the most painfully conservative coach in the league? He's supposed to be an offensive coach, but the Bills were a punt machine, and had the 2nd worst Red Zone offense in the NFL. The only reason they didn't have the worst Red Zone offense in the NFL, was because we play in the same league. And this is the top candidate to turn this thing around? Unreal. He won 15 games in two seasons ... And three of them were against US! That means he was busy going 12-16 against everybody else in the league. What a disaster this will be.
I don't have nightmares and certainly a teenage Jet fan that knows nothing about this game wouldn't start to give me them.
First time anyone has referenced this. This is a huge BINGO! You don't just say "we're 4-12...this sucks let's fire everybody!" That is poor management with no foresight. It's not like, for the most part, the whole world didn't know who was going to be fired. Marrone is the only wild card really. All the other candidates have been reported on for weeks. It's really odd...does anyone ever notice how the Jets have incredibly horrible timing? When we need a QB we either do not have the draft position necessary or there is nothing but shit in the draft we need to get one in. When we need to go shopping for a coach there's nothing but mediocrity, unknowns or shit...never a guy shaking loose (like Andy Reid for example) when we need it to happen. Just seems like this is our reality no matter when we are in the market or looking...just odd.
Either way there is a pretty good chance Rex wouldnt have survived another GM change. So we could have fired Idzik and let whoever the new GM decide whether or not he wanted to retain Rex. I'm willing to bet that wouldnt have happened.
the time we got Parcells we made it happen by tampering. it's depressing to think how close we were to getting Peyton or Brady and Belichick. Many times it's not the top QBs in the draft that work out so hopefully we can find someone after those top 2 guys. we'll see. I do like that the Jets haven't hired Marrone yet, they are letting this process play out. I was scared he'd be hired right away. if they determine he is the best after going through al the interviews that's one thing but he hasn't done anything to think we need to have him the second he shook free.
Agreed...for a change I want to see the Jets do the full due diligence...especially now that we have actual football people handling it.
You Rex guys make it sound like this was a (0-16) team the last 4 years but due to Rex the Jets won 26 games! What a winner. Now without him, the Jets are going to go (0-16). It is just not true. I can point to 7 or 8 games this year the Jets could have won with better coaching. Now ask yourself how good would the team have been with Marrone in 2014? Hard to know, but I would guess better than (4-12).
There's absolutely no reason to rush this process as it's pretty clear every team with an opening is taking their time and going through a long selection process. I'm interested to see if Casserly and Wolf target any college guys. It's worth a look. I really hope they don't just limit their search to the pros.
you have to dig deeper, unless you hold him responsible for talent acquisition he's been an outstanding coach 2 of the last 3 years. I truly believe his best 2 years were 2012 and 2013. those years should have been like this year. This year he was sabotaged by the GM not focusing on 2014.
Those are two biggies, but it's so much more than that: 1. Everyone wanted Marino; the Jets draft Ken O'Brien 2. Jets want to draft Favre; Atlanta trades one spot in front of us and takes him 3. Everyone wanted Warren Sapp; the Jets draft Kyle Brady 4. Jets have future SB winner Pete Carroll as HC; fire him to let Richie Kotite run the team 5. Jets need OL, but draft Roger Vick (a fullback that is quickly out of the league); next two players drafted become All-Pro left tackles 6. Next season? Jets draft a 1st Round OT (he is quickly out of the league) 7. Jets draft the best young pass rushing DT in football; he becomes paralyzed in year four 8. Jets have #2 pick in draft and take Blair Thomas; next RB taken is Emmitt Smith 9. Jets have #4 pick in draft and take most explosive linebacker in a decade; breaks his hip during rookie year, never recovers his speed 10. Jets draft DE Coleman Rudolph in second round; next DE taken is HOFer Michael Strahan ... I could go on and on, but it's too depressing. EDIT: How could I forget? 11. Jets beg Favre to come over, finally acquire a HOF QB; 11 games in, they are the best team in football; he tears a tendon in his throwing arm 12. Jets are Super Bowl favorites for the first time in forever; Testeverde tears his Achilles on the first series of the season; we play like 17 QBs that year
Those advocating taking our time on the hires are forgetting how the process played out last time. The Jets don't want to be the team standing around when the music has stopped because then that becomes a story and as we all know the NY/NJ media loves that kind of story. The Jets should pick a duo they like and go with them. Doesn't have to be Marrone/Mueller or Quinn/Kirschner but it should be a couple of guys who are on the same page and can work together and the coach probably should have the upper hand in terms of player personnel. If he's going to be the first one whacked if things go wrong then he should also be the deciding vote on who the team takes in the draft and free agency. The idea of having a GM who would make decisions over a span of seasons to build a team went out the door with Idzik. Obviously the fan base doesn't have that kind of patience and now we have billboards that will pop up as soon as the team hits a losing streak.
