And he quit. Up and just pulled the plug and quit. He didn't "finish" anything. I don't care what his reasons were...I also don't bemoan him going after more coin...etc....etc....still doesn't negate the fact that he quit. Left his guys high and dry. Marty's HC record, for anyone with a brain in their head, was a product of probably the worst General Manager that ever graced professional sports in any league. His credentials outside of the Detroit gig...they speak for them self.
Ummmm...no...wrong side of 70 years old my man. I would question whether or not he could even finish out a decade in green and white. Sorry...would have loved the hire about 20 years ago....
Saying he quit is about the most ignorant thing I ever read on these boards. I guess that makes Harbaugh a quitter too. Given the situation with the owner, gm etc. just about every coach on the planet would have done the same thing.
This is a pet peeve of mine and I hate when posters do this. But how can you credit Rex for the job he did in 2013 only to absolve him of 2014? Be consistent.
I liked Joe Walton. He was a good coach. Please don't lump him with Richie and Coslet. How old are you?
The most ignorant thing you have ever read? Whoa...Section, you've been around here long enough to know that's not true. Now...Ummm...Harbaugh was asked to leave. Pretty common knowledge. If you want...a "mutual parting of the ways." I mean...who knows...from what I understand the NFL is all about winning...and when that isn't enough I guess....you have the problem the 49'ers have. Marrone sure as hell doesn't qualify to be even whispered in the same breath as Harbaugh and the 49'ers. When you haven't accomplished shit you don't get the benefit of the doubt. And Marrone hasn't accomplished shit.
I didn't absolve him...I merely said he was the "lesser" of the evils. I also said I had no fantasy of what the last 4 years looked like. Ryan is culpable...but from my viewpoint, he is less culpable than others. This year...this HC/GM hunt proves one thing for certain...our owner didn't take a look at the landscape around him before jettisoning his entire management team. The last thing you do is get rid of what you have only to ensure that what you are replacing with is inferior to what you had...especially from a HC standpoint. There is no written rule, as the media would have you believe, that just because a HC has a disasterous losing season that he has to be fired when the replacement pool is worse than the existing pool.
Hey man I know you're a sad individual and need to be a dick on an Internet forum to feel better about yourself, but your comment was totally uncalled for
Mezz you are cracking me up. Rex Ryan is a terrible Head Coach. Anyone can come in and be a better Head Coach than him. He is a great Defensive Coordinator, the best in the NFL, but a bad Head Coach. And he didn't just have a disastrous season. He had 4 in a row. 2011 a terrible collapse, 2012 awful, 2013 worst 8-8 team ever and 2014 awful.
Its statements like these that make me really hope to see him as a HC on someones sidelines next season ,I'm gonna try to watch any game of his to see how he does as long as it doesn't effect Jets games.I'm really intrested to see what he is able to do in a place like Atlanta or where ever he goes
What you expect is: a prepared team in good condition, who understands and follows the playbook and the game plan, under league average in penalty minutes with a good turnover ratio. And a coaching staff that can make adjustments with good game management. In other words a team that is ready to play from the opening whistle and plays up to if not above their talent level. And doesn't beat themselves. That's not so much to ask.
He is a terrible Head Coach because 1. He knows nothing of offense or special teams and refuses to try. 2. He is terrible with in-game decisions and clock management. 3. He is terrible with in-game adjustments. He has a plan and he sticks to it. Too stubborn. 4. Clearly puts more into some games than others. Lacks consistency. All of those points have nothing to do with whatever roster his GM puts together.
