I'd take Marrone for Ryan any day. Marrone is a disciplinarian that doesn't stand for any bullshit and keeps his mouth shut, so that's an improvement right there. While I obviously don't know for sure what Marrone may be in the long run, I know what Ryan is, and I rather give Marrone the shot than stick with the buffoon, given the choice.
Is it possible Jets tampered? Some people on Twitter are saying it, but I doubt it. Especially when his contract had this out clause.
Wow! @ManishMehta Jets source on possibility of hiring Doug Marrone: "You got rid of Rex Ryan for this?" ... Pretty strong sentiment. #nyj @ManishMehta Plenty of opinions about whether Doug Marrone to Jets is a good fit. One member of the organization just told me: "That doesn't make sense"
Yes. Firing Rex was dumb, but once he's gone and you have to hire somoene else, hiring a nobody (who had a chance with little success) just compounds the mistake.
I'd rather have Rex Ryan to be honest. Marrone is considered to be an offensive guy, yet his offenses in Buffalo have been worse than ours over the past two years. Why hire a guy who signed off on drafting EJ Manuel at #15? Giving up a 1st round pick to draft Sammy Watkins when Odell Beckham Jr was available at their original slot? Marrone brings NOTHING to the table. He is a coward who is jumping ship because he knows the Bills aren't set up well for the future because he wasted two first round picks on Sammy and EJ. NO TO MARRONE
It's one thing when the fan base disagrees, but when players and coaches inside the building are questioning it, that's a problem.
Apparently Chip was close friends with Gamble who was VP of player personnel and not close with GM Howard Roseman. Owner was close with Roseman and since Chip and Roseman did not see eye to eye over the last year, Lurie decided to let Gamble go.
There's no way an NFL head coach with no rings is opting out of his contract unless he's 100% sure he has another head coach job somewhere to step into. The league may not be able to prove it, but I'm certain some team tampered and guaranteed him a job. Either that or he's dumbest NFL head coach in recent history.
Lets be realistic here, and you know I have been a Rex supporter. He would be moving into a team with potentially a better D, Rex's strength, but an offense in disarray worst than our at the beginning of the season, without a QB nor a #1 round pick. Rex is not the guy to fix that, as self evident with the Jets....and forget the ground and pound concept as a solution for him. Did he not also beat NE the first game of the season before his QB situation imploded on him? I'm really starting to warm up to a Marrone /solid GM that can work hand in glove for personnel matters as a reasonable tandem.
Front office Makeover: Mike Maccagnon, Rick Mueller and Tom Gamble (bye bye Bradway) Head Coach: Doug Marrone (experienced head coach with offensive focus) All could be done in 24 hours.
is it tampering if a guy considering accepting the jets gm position contacts him and says ... hey I'm strongly considering taking this gm spot if you opt out of love to have you add my coach? I don't see how they could fault the jets for someone who isn't employed by them makimg contact.
He was still employed until an hour ago, if our dream team of Cassely and Wolf were contacting him it could be perceived as tampering.
