Scheme alone can upgrade it. Of course they will still need playees but Rex can improve it just by his prsence. I would go to atlanta tho if I'm him, better qb, weaker division.
You can always find a coach, the options aren't limited. Gase, Pep, Quinn, Bevell, Bowles, McDaniels are guys teams will look at. You can also look at college coaches like Malzahn, Kelly, Cutcliffe, Briles.
I disagree. It completely depends on the coach. If a coach wants to create his own offensive identity and bring in his guy at the Qb position, the Jets are by far the most attractive team. It helps that we have the most money of any other team on the market for a head coach except for Oakland. And we have virtually no players tied up in long-term deals. It's a very attractive spot. Personally I think Niners are the most attractive (except even there they know the management fired one of the best head coaches of the past decade...) followed by the Jets; being a NY team has its perks. Plus Rex Ryan will likely take up one of the HC positions IMO, and we won't be competing for him.
When all is said and done, I would be OK with Quinn if Casserly and Wolf hire him. I hope they interview Hue Jackson, he seems like a great possibility.
I wonder if Jay Cutler would run through a brick wall for Rex. A lot of the good players on that D are old like Lance Briggs, Peanut. They have Fuller and that's about it. Scheme will help, but they will need to replace some aging veterans. I think Atlanta is better for Rex as well. Better QB, easier competition in the NFC South.
When we hire the HC, hopefully in unison with the new GM, I hope is solely predicated on talent, and should be the one that gives us the best chance to succeed by having the ability to focus on all aspects of the game. What his background as coordinator is should have no bearing what the fuck so ever on the decision. If he shows sufficient understanding as what's needed on D, O and special teams along with sharp coach selection skills, then jump on the dude. There are as many supremely coaches out there with a defensive background as offensive background. Sorry but automatically excluding a rising star because he has a defensive background is beyond moronic, akin to not wanting to pick early in the draft because of our previous poor past experience. Fuck the past and for once go after the best.
Niners coach is arguably a better slot. Maybe they'd beat us out if we are competing for the Stanford coach.They are not looking for a GM so no competition there Falcons are not a better position for a coach and by all accounts, Rex is a candidate, so we're really not competing with them. Same for the Bears, although I doubt they're hiring a forceful GM or big name coach (they haven't since Ditka)
There actually is a good pool of candidates for the Jets to consider. I like the following: -Sumlin -Shaw -Gase -McDaniels -Malzahn -Brian Kelly Obviously, all have an emphasis on offense. Sumlin is the most accomplished in terms of all the QB's he's worked with and help mentor. It's an impressive least to say the least all the way back to when he coached Drew Bledsoe at Wash St. A lot of the guys on this list have worked with some of the best QB's in football. And no to Quinn or Bowles. Todd Bowles has only been a full-time DC in the NFL for 2 years and he's already in his 50's...pass. Quinn is another DC that's probably just a career coordinator. Neither of those guys scream big time, innovative HC material.
Hiring a GM first should be the priority and letting him choose his HC!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......... Holy Jesus freaking Christ...................and thinking of hiring a DC as head HC ?.......Why did they fire Rex?...........What`s wrong with this ownership?
