I miss read and I was going to agree with saying the gm is retarded. This Gm needs to go not because of his bad drafts (he has had 2 low to no impact drafts 20 picks and 4 players so far from it.....) two free agency periods and can't plan to put together a team and that is why he should be fired. Because on the whole he sucks. Not just drafting but free agency ( I like spending low but come one now) I will give an example, he signs decker everyone believes he is a number 2 receiver does not make a run at a tate or a saunders or even Jackson instead goes midway through the year does what is a perceived panic move using 7 million of the cap space the cheap bastard saved on Harvin on what could be a 1 year rental when he could have made a run at one of the above 3 for 5 to 6 million saving at least 1 million in cap space. But here is the kicker you have a young qb you need to get him help but because he drafted receivers in the fourth round and below they have yet to make any impact/help to this team if he signs a fa maybe he drafts differently for other players in position of need...
So we got the blessed miracle of watching david nelson and Greg Salas start a game when his one signing was hurt..

That is why he needs to go not because of his drafts, not because of free agent signings but because he can not do either well so far and he cant put together a football team with talent. this is not Jacksonville where you can sit on 20 + million in cap space when your team has issues. There is allot of pressure to make things right and in Jacksonville it is the exact opposite. hell I would not be surprised to the LA Jags or the London Jags before they even attempt to get things straightened out there. but you want to know what really irks me they kicked the titans ass while we squeaked by.

    Really like this draft.

The notion that EVERYBODY gives a GM more time than two years presupposes that in two years something positive has happened in the areas the GM is responsible for. NOTHING positive has happened. We still have the same needs and some are even more acute.

Let's face it, if you hired a babysitter, went out and came back after an hour and the house was on fire from a ignored cigarette butt she'd been smoking and babysitter was laying drunk on the couch, would you keep that babysitter employed until the end of the night or fire her on the spot? Well, of course you'd fire the babysitter and try not to pay her for the hour you were away.

There's clearly no plan in place here that will be derailed. He's proven he has zero clue on handling free agency--neither in negotiating or evaluating talent--and can't be counted on to run a draft well. So, why should he be given more time to screw things up more?

Though I agree WR's can be had all over the draft, this year's crop of receivers is nothing like last year's. You'd be hard pressed to find any draft like last year's as far as receivers go.

At least Idzik showed good understanding of value resource allocation and walked away from that stocked, stocked WR draft with Jalen Saunders, Shaq Evans, and the ever dangerous Quincy Enunwa. Real veteran guidance there.

Just draft Cooper. It's so simple.

First it's an insult for any organization to pick first. Second: more than half of the time guys selected higher in the round end up being better players. So this idea of losing so you can get a better pick doesn't work. Unless Kareem Abdul Jabbar is available and he's not. So I hope like hell we beat Miami on Sunday. So we get our 4th W. And do they don't get their 9th. They don't deserve it.

You'll find out how he deals with losing when Mariota and crew destroy Florida St. in about a week.

Who said that general managers get five years. This isn't the seventies and the eighties. The ones with jobs
have to be lucky enough to make the right decisions early enough to keep their job. I honestly believe if Geno
had turned out to be a decent QB then Idzik would still be in good standing. But he put all of his marbles on
that pick and his other decisions just added to his downfall.

    P.S. Boo hoo.

That is pretty damning but I want found even worse than his drafting was how he put our roster together. Given our poor secondary play last year and our start to this season with 6 straight games against the muderers row of QBs Idzik did nothing to improve the secondary. It was in fact it was much worse. Given the the type of defense Rex runs that is simply giving away the season and not giving him the tools he needs. It is one thing to be frugral and build slow but one still has to field a competitive team. This is something Idzik failed to do through his own incompetence. I like Idzik's building through the draft philosphy but I do not think he was anywhere near ready to be a GM. From all appearances he lacked the people skills, the negotiation skills, the ability to plan, and the ability to react quickly to changing events. Tannenbaum can be criticized for a lot of things but he always had a plan, a back-up plan and then a few more plans for whatever contingency would happen and he always did his best to give the coach a chance to filed a competitive team. Two qualities Idzik clearly lacks.

So what was the solution then in the secondary. Even if we had signed DRC who wanted to play for the Giants (and his old teammate and mentor Antoine Rolle). Or Vontae Davis who decided to re-sign with his team. Could be he just preferred the Colts over the Jets. Didn't want to move his family again. And liked his teammates and coaches. And even if we had gotten one of them what if they were injured. Who would you blame then. I think depending on Milliner was a mistake. But their plan never had a chance due to injuries. Plus Patterson not even making it out of training camp. He had been an injury prone but a proven NFL cornerback. So are you saying that Rex's D doesn't work unless he has a Revis or Pro Bowl Cb. Based on what we think we know. The owner wanted no part of that. Lots of D talent on this team.

I think EVERYONE knows Rex's dee don't work without corner talent. True, there's lots of D talent, unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of it is on the Dee Line. There's virtually NO D talent at LB and precious little in the secondary. But he "tried" right? Drafted McDougle after having drafted Milliner. But the Patterson signing was ludicrous. And your speculation on why these talented corners left without signing contracts seems fantastical: if they weren't interested, they probably wouldn't have visited. and certainly not for the amount of time they did.

I just don't see enough to warrant more time. Anyone could have done what Idzik did last offseason and, really, for the past two offseasons. There's nothing remotely exciting about what he has done to the Jets. They are exactly the same dull, undertalented team they were when he was brought on. And virtually anyone can do what he did. I daresay any of US could have put together the team the Jets fielded this and last year.

Look if you're a good coach you don't need a Pro Bowl corner. Most teams don't have that. They also don't have the talent Rex has on the D-line. And as for Babin: the re-signing of Pace with Babin were very good signings. As for the secondary: two straight years two no. 1 picks. That's not neglecting the secondary. Idzik tried to get an elite Cb but the guys signed with other teams. And the Patterson signing was a good signing at the time. He isn't a bad player but he's a jerkoff. You expect your coach to do a good job with the players on the roster. you adjust your scheme to the talent. Something he couldn't do.

Hey, I'm not suggesting that Rex should say. Far from that. But, really, GMs don't get paid for "trying" to field a credible team.

Pace and Babin are stop-gap, over-30 players. That's supposed to be good for a unit that was already old and slow?

And, wow, you lose a bit of credibility saying that the Patterson signing was good. He was a known nutcase and not even best suited for the role they signed him for: outside CB. He was best known for playing inside on the slot receiver. And, unfortunately, we already had a 'slot corner' in Wilson.

In no way can you look at this past offseason and say "good job, Brownie, er Idzik!!" The moves didn't work and were risky to begin with. The stupidity of passing on good WRs for the dreck he eventually wasted numerous picks on?

Clearly, you're just arguing against the accepted logic...and the record. I don't know why, but the evidence clearly does not support you.

A GM does his best work signing role players like Babin and Pace etc to give a team depth and guys who can do a specific job: like rush the passer on third down. I disagree on Patterson: he was worth taking a chance on and one of the better cornerbacks available after the top 3 or 4. I'm so tired of hearing about poor Rex not having a big time cb. Idzik's had 3 number ones and all were on defense including two Dbs. The other was Sheldon Richardson, not too shabby. Look the guy has not done a good job. But I think he should get another year. He is not destroying the franchise.

No, they are not. He came to a team in salary cap hell, full of aging veterans and low on talent. Now it's a team with a great salary cap situation, full of young players, many of whom are good. You can keep telling this to yourself if it makes you feel better, but the fact remains that Idzik has completely overhauled our offensive skill players, going from Hill, Holmes, Cumberland, and Greene to Decker, Harvin, Amaro, and Ivory in less than 2 years, a very good core of skill players that with a halfway decent quarterback and offensive system would look really good. He added the team MVP on defense, in Richardson, and other players who are either already contributing (Aboushi, Bohannon, Pryor) or who might very well contribute in the future (Dozier, Milliner, McDougle, IK, Reilly). Idzik is doing a very nice job actually of restocking talent to a depleted team, it's just that nothing can please the legions of the bratty, spoiled fans and media who want instant gratification and don't understand the first thing about how teams are built.

That is not true. DRC came to the Jets and was ready to sign. The problem is he got low balled by Idzik and was only offered a one year deal. When the Giants offered DRC a multi-year deal it took Idzik too long to respond with an offer. By the the time Idzik offered DRC a competive multi year deal he had his mind up. Which is a problem we have seen repeatedly with Idzik. Other agents have called him slow as molasses and difficult to work with as it takes him too long to respond. Jet personnel last summer criticized Idzik for failing to have contingency and back up plans and for being too slow to respond. Which is exactly what happened with DRC. Idzik misread the market and then was to slow to respond to changing conditions. This was truly a great year for FA CBs. Idzik supposedly wanted Davis but the Colts upped their offer just before he hit FA. He did not respond to Revis' calls. He messed up the DRC deal. He did not respond to Cros repeated calls to match the Arizona offer. All he gave us was Patterson and 3rd round CB who was projected to go in round 6 coming after major injury. If you want to put your eggs in the basket of a developing QB you better come ready with a defense especially when you play Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, Rivers, Manning and Brady in successive weeks. He had no viable plan for a competitive season because of his incompetence. I might love his philosophy, his frugalness, his emphasis on the draft and the future, and his ability to follow the plan and blueprint left by Tannenbaum to shed salary in 2013, but I do not think the man was even close to being ready to be a NFL GM. He appears to lack the ability to meet the basics for fielding a competitive team, has difficulty getting along with others, difficulty planning, difficulty responding in a timely manner and in negotiation. A lot if not most of what has been said about Idzik are from anon sources. But where there is smoke there usually is fire. When people are not likeable, like Mangini, you will see lots of anon sources. What has been repeatedly said about Idzik is consistent and its hard not to believe.

That was one version of the story. And what's wrong with low balling. Which means trying to get a good deal and negotiating. Making an offer and then a counteroffer. I never heard once that he wanted to sign with the Jets over the Giants. But I did hear that he had a personal relationship with Rolle who had been a mentor with him on the Cardinals. Look if they had signed DRC: same record.
