Woodrow is the big problem here, no doubt about it. I have next to no confidence in his ability to judge suitable candidates for management, to be clear.
Pete Carroll's biggest problem during his tenure here was immaturity. Amazing how time can fix that one. Sure we could have waited but I would rather have enjoyed the success we had in his absence than suck for a decade until Carroll decided to grow up.
No doubt. But he got less time here than convicted murderers do. (I think it was Joe Fields or someone who said that).
lol...who really needs to chill out? You guys defending him are so friggin pissed off....why? Why cant someone feel the exact opposite? Pete Caroll? Is that where the defenders are going to lay all their money on that eventually he would have been a great NFL coach? Thats it? I would take a bunch of JET fans having a better chance of knowing whats right for the team over WOODY any day of the week....month or year. Chill out? Im very chill...the defenders need to understand and respect that others have an opinion. Who the fuck is chastising you guys and your defense. I would bet everything I had that if you asked the top 20 minds in NFL history what they think of the job by the front office of the Jets the past 2 years was like...rate it...have a feeling that the line would be very long behind those thinking its been sloppy..at best. Pete Carroll? Thats it? Want the list of GMS/HC's/OC's that this team held on to WAY too long? Bet its longer then what Pete Carroll might have been had he not been fired by the Jets...and then the Patriots after that.
DEAD ON BB and there lies the reason he needs to be pushed. The problem is..and I believe SOME of the defenders of Idzik feel this way, is that the "do nothing and stay patient"approach they want is because of fear of what would come after that. Now if you break that down...I mean...you cant function like that..you just cant. You just cant say "be careful what you ask for". If the next person that comes in has 19 draft picks and 22 million sitting in the bank his first 2 years here and does even worse...well..then you keep doing it over and over until even a shitty owner like Woody steps into shit and gets it right. Im sorry...but I cant just stay with a guy for fear the next guy will be worse. Cant play that game.
Whoever owns the Raiders. Seriously, it's been how long since that team made the playoffs or was even considered in contention? Whoever owns the Chargers. You know what's more depressing than being in a 3 year and a quarter season funk after having a real Super Bowl window? Having your franchise QB and winning between 7 and 9 games every year and usually missing the playoffs. What's going to happen when Rivers is gone? Whoever owns the Jaguars, Titans and Texans. What a mess, plural. Whoever owns the Browns. Don't need to comment on this one. Whoever owns the Fins. This is their great free agent inspired splurge the last three years. Not playoffs and AFC Championship Game, 7-9, 8-8, 7-7. This is what the Woody haters want for the Jets. Whoever owns the Bills. Does anybody actually own the Bills any more? Mike Brown. Just because. I'll take it back if the Bengals decide to win a playoff game in here somewhere. That's 9 AFC owners I would much rather have Woody Johnson instead of. DisplacedFan is on the money although he probably has differences of opinion with my choices.
Some of those guys aren't that bad. And none of them decided to put their team in another team's stadium, even if it was a "shared" facility.
There are a lot of franchises that are way more hapless than the Jets. Could you imagine being a life-long Cardinals' fan?
I didn't do the NFC in my list but yeah the Bidwills are another owner group I'd rather have Woody Johnson over. That's true even with the recent success, which will be fleeting as all the Cardinals good moments have been.
Because NYC and NYS were more than willing to get out of the Jets way and let them build a stadium in the NYC area right? Small secret here. There's a reason the *Giants* moved to New Jersey and the Jets followed them and both teams have stayed. The Jets at least made good faith efforts to stay in NYC and to move back when the Meadowlands lease was up. Talk to your NY state representative if you want to know why the Jets are in New Jersey again. If you live in Chelsea talk to your city councilperson. If you actually live in NJ just shut up about this. NJ wasn't greasing the skids for two stadiums no matter who asked.
Yes, thanks for reminding us that the Pats fired Carroll, too. I think he got much better as an HC taking time off from the NFL. Right now it's between him and Reid as my favorite HC's in the league, but he obviously needed more grooming compared to his performances back in the nineties. I also obviously agree with your take on the probable league wide assessment of Idzik's performance.
Yes, I was merely acknowledging that we are, after all, attempting to find the best choice from among a range of rather unpleasant options, with varying degrees of unpleasantness involved. And to be sure Woodrow might well, as he did when he hired Idzik, hire another bad GM. But that is not excuse for leaving a bad GM in place.
While you can make the argument that those teams at times are no better than the Jets, I disagree that they are tangibly worse. Brad, we all know you are a Woody fanboy. But whatever your reasons, he flat out sucks as far as most fans are concerned. Ftr the Bills and Fins are in much better shape right now even in our division.
people think Woody is a bad owner? do you not remember Leon Hess? you guys deserve the pre Parcells Jets to root for. we have gone through the best stretch in Jets history in terms of competitiveness since Woody took over and yet somehow he is a bad owner b/c he may have made a mistake w/ Idzik.
better shape right now, do you know Buffalo hasn't made the playoffs this Century? Miami has made it one time since 2002 but their ownership has been great and damn Woody for having one of the top 5-6 AFC teams since he took over.
Bob Glauber in Newsday today wrote a non anti-Idzik article on how the Seattle GM thinks highly of him and thinks he should get more than 2 years and with his own HC. He also said that Idzik didn't come in and try to shake things up and fire people he tried working with the existing front office and coaching staff and applauds him as not being the kind of person who caves into pressure and that he is someone who will stick with a plan. He also noted that when he took over at Seattle they had 2 losing seasons. Of course in Seattle you don't have vipers like the New York press.
Blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Woody Johnson made the decision to play in the shared stadium. Reports strongly indicate he was not at all interested in any new stadium for the Jets sole use anywhere but the west side rail yards. I've certainly met more than a few former Jets season ticket holders who kept their seats through the Giants Stadium years but gave them up when it became clear the Jets would share MetLife. Do you think that may have something to do with the fact that you can still buy a PSL today?
