I might have lost where this post came from.. but yes there are definitely worse owners than Woody Johnson and there are definitely better owners. You don't know until they own the team and then see how they react to their shiny new toy
Check yourself, dude. The only person who said anything about standing on a table and screaming in a restaurant is...YOU! Go argue with the man in the mirror. Loud reactions are encouraged in stadiums. One more thing - Don't you find it to be just a tad hypocritical to be bashing those campaigning against Idzik when your name here translates to "Bradway Sucks?"
no.. because you can literally say anything you want on a message board and waste your time pounding on your keyboard.. but actually doing something about your gripes in real life is "out of line"…
There are times when you can tolerate upper management and their mistakes. RALEBIRD pointed out BRADS name...and I follow why he made that his name. Back in the day of even Tanny, you could tolerate his "mistakes" and the constant forfeiting of draft picks to move up...move up...move up. The team was having some good years...so there wasn't a reason for panic. This time period is different. CMAN pointed out correctly the big decision Leon Hess had to make in the mid to late 90s of a team in a free fall. Hess made that huge decision and it paid off big time. If Vinny doesn't go down, lord knows what this team could have accomplished. Crap, I was Superbowl ready with about 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter the year before up 10-0 against the Broncos. The big decision was made...and the Jets were no longer laughing stocks. For me, it was a real proud time to be a Jet fan. I truly have no idea what would happen with another year of Idzik. All I know as a Jet fan...and it boggles my mind how other older Jet fans can even defend what has happened that past couple years...is this. I have seen this movie before. I have seen players do everything they can NOT to come to the Jets. Only money would bring them here and a decent amount more then offered by other teams. This team has no Qb of the future This team has an offensive line that was once admirable getting older..and again..with no real young talent to push them. The secondary...a true staple of the team Idzik came from...has not one solid guy for the future..2 years in. The linebacker situation will need repair with the probable loss of Harris. Only the front 4 is in decent shape...and this is after 2 years of running the team. And for the millionth time...this past draft? I don't even know where to begin. How can you have that many picks and not one of them is providing you with any kind of service this year besides Amaro and occasionally Pryor? How does that happen and how can ANY JET fan be ok with that? I will say this...and I am really feeling pretty positive about this. After the years of watching Woody...one thing we have learned is that he is VERY aware that the fan base, for the most part, likes Rex Ryan. He understands..even if its 50%, that firing Rex Ryan...and leaving Idzik in place will be very very very unpopular for many Jet fans. I'm not sure how I feel about Rex anymore but one thing I can say now....he really go screwed this year. He got screwed with us sitting on 22 million. He got screwed by a GM who has drafted 2 cb's high and both were injury prone and then going out in free agency and getting one CB who was head case and disappeared before a preseason game. In his style of defense....he really got screwed going from Cromartie and Revis to what he ended up with this year. With that said, Woody can not fire Rex and leave Idzik...and he would look like an idiot keeping Rex AGAIN and firing the GM. Both will be gone....it has to be that way. If it were up to Woody deep down I think he would love to keep Rex but would look like a total schmuck if he did that again...and no real GM would tolerate that.
You forgot how he rebuilt the entire offensive skill player group: - the Wire Receivers - the Running back position - the TE Because some of us actually understand how drafts work and dont judge them 3 months in? Have you seen Pryor play recently near the line? Have you seen IK play?
Personally I dislike the consensus method. Listen? Yes. But do not water down your decision. Listen and evaluate yourself. Don't settle for a lesser decision when you are the one whose neck is on the line. You are getting the big bucks to see what the need is. I really think that Bradway is the fly in the draft ointment. Bradway and Bradway's "guys". I thought Idzik would get to clean house the year after he came in but apparently he did not. Or would not. If Woody prevented this then the Jets are in a real pickle. Any sane man could have looked at the Jets draft history and determined that Bradway and his guys had to go.
This has been an interesting thread to follow and been fun trying to read between the lines. It makes me wonder if there are a few here posting that really have a dog in this fight. The internet really is a wonderful thing.
jay, surely you comprehend there is a difference between being critical of the current state of the roster and thinking that an open revolt among the fan base to depose the current regime is a good thing. Idzik may not be the answer, but you can't know that simply from what you see on the field at this snapshot in time. I think that may be harder for some season ticketholders to sit still for than the rest of us. No matter what woody does, Rome ain't getting built in a day here. What happens two seasons from now if the new guy's team still hasn't made the playoffs? The Jets need to set a direction and stick with it. I think they've done that with Idzik. They need to play this out.
Yep. Some actually have speculated over the recent years that Woodrow enjoys the circus. I would hardly say I believe he does not, but it's not necessary to literally believe that to recognize that is what the net result is. Woodrow is a clown owner, and yes the successful owners defer to the football people to run the show. As recently as this week we saw reports that Woodrow is involved in the search for a new HC. He'e less competent to do that than most of the posters on this board. Jerry Jones it must be said is something of a lightning rod exception. But he's hardly a model owner, and to his credit he's been at the football knowledge thing for a long time. Woodrow just does not have anywhere near even that level of competence in him.
OK...I will give you some of this D...but I really do believe Woody is one of the few owners that needs to be pushed hard to make the right choice. Nobody will convince me of that. I believe Woody kept Rex when bringing in Idzik not because it was the right move..but because the fanbase still was OK with Rex..and that sold tickets. Its always been about tickets and not whats right for this franchise. Im sorry...I cant get past that and I cant defend this guy being brought back for another year. Its too friggin familiar.
I did mention the TE and Pryor...I have mentioned them both..and after 2 years we are going to hang our hat on Ivory...Decker...and Amaro. Im not judging this 3 months in..unless Idzik was hired in September...not 3 months at all.
What seems familiar to me is bailing on a guy at the wrong time for the wrong reasons without giving him a proper chance. Its kind of the story of the Jets since Namath. You remember that Pete Caroll guy? Pretty good coach after all, I'm told. Remember when Leon was fed up and needed instant gratification and kicked him out the door? How'd you care for his replacement? You people need to chill the fuck out. The likelihood that a bunch of fans have a better plan for the franchise than the GM does is miniscule.
Is this why Bradway is still here? Cuz he has a family and we want to be nice to him... Ok don't hire anybody with a family. Any orphan of the street could do just as good a job anyway.
So, the GM is always right, then? When was the last time a GM said he had a WORSE plan than the fans? In any event having a plan is the wrong metric here. Idzik's problem is that he has failed to demonstrate he is EFFECTIVE at implementing whatever the fuck his plan really is. As far as chilling, calmer than you are. Carroll is a bad example. He had to go back to the farm league to learn how to be a good HC. Just because he is one now does not mean he was one then.
He cleaned house and kept it clean.. He then replaced the furniture with goods from a thrift store. Now our house looks a mess. Long story short, no he didn't make our situation better even last year rex just had a great coaching year and masked our ugly roster.
That's all valid. The point is though that nobody putting up billboards or posting on the internet knows what the plan is or whether its been effectively implemented and its too soon to tell from the results on the field if its time to bail. The point about Carroll is impatience is a bad thing because it increases the likelihood that you swap someone in who ends up being much worse. Unless you think Woody is a great judge of executive talent, in which case you should let his current talent do its thing.
