Geno's pretty wild with his throws these days. Not sure exactly why he's regressed in that way but I suspect it has something to do with not being able to manage ball security and still make the throws he needs too. That's what happened to Mark Sanchez also. A guy turns the ball over too much and it's drilled into him that he cannot do that (which he really can't) and suddenly the throws are nowhere near a defender with a lot of them nowhere near your receiver either.
Geno with the right Offensive minded HC can be a good QB. The franchise QB meme is a silly one. Less than that have won championships.
I think he can be a successful quarterback for sure but it most likely won't be here. I pray that if we draft Mariotta and I hope we do that he will be in a better situation that Mark and Geno were. WR's, O-Line, and CB have to be addressed before destroying another QB.
We shouldnt just discard him. He's probably not the answer but there is no reason to just get rid of him. Let him ride the bench while we look for another QB and maybe he gets an opportunity some other time down the road. It's been hard for QB's to succeed year for a while now. I'm just hoping we look to address that problem before we bring in the next QB.
Here's the thing about Winston, Mariota, Teddy, Carr that differs from Geno. Those guys have high football IQs to go with their physical talents. Geno has the physical gifts, but he just doesn't have that innate ability to see what's going on in front of him, to understand what's about to happen, to figure out how to change something up to account for what's about to happen, to make adjustments in the middle of a play. All the studying in the world isn't going to change that. _
It's so true. Last night watching the New England game, the announcers were talking about a high profile QB, don't remember if it was Brady or Manning, and one of them brought up something said by that QB: "You have to feel the play and feel the route when throwing the ball. If you see it, it's likely too late." All I could think of was Geno Smith. He doesn't feel the routes he throws to.
No. I don't think Geno will ever be a "Franchise" QB. There are a handful of them in the NFL at any given time. I do however feel that it is way too early to say that Geno is a bust and will never be any good. If Geno keeps on playing like he did yesterday (good enough to win - that loss isn't on his shoulders imo) then we bring him back next year to compete against whoever we bring in this offseason. If he can win his starting spot against whoever we bring in - then he obviously deserves it.
Yes, but I don't think the circumstances that will lead to me saying yes happening. So yes he can, but I don't think he will
to answer this no he cannot because he has issues with turning over the ball. A franchise qb does not have close to 40 turn overs in 27 games 7 being pick 6s while account for 19 td passes. that is just terrible and anyone whoe thinks he can succeed are fooling themselves. They ran Sanchez out of town for less geno is 4 x worse the only thing he did good yesterday was climb the pocket other then that........ how about a game where he does not turn it over
Alex Smith was pretty smart and you can give some credit to Harbaugh for helping to turn around Smith's career.
I agree. Smith was very very good before he got hurt and I think a lot of that had to do with Harbaugh. Can you imagine him with a really smart QB with exceptional skills that happens to have initials MM? And I don't mean Matt Moore. _
