Oh then I misread the article. I thought they were trying to use the numbers to say no group, specifically black, are targeted unfairly. I think using just those numbers is very misleading and is a very simplistic, dumb way to address the very complex problem of if a population is being targeted unfairly. They do address the idea of being murdered left and right, although thy don't address armed vs unarmed, violent crime, etc.
Ah for the good old days of Jim Crow, The Klan and Hangins. Back then, they didn't pretend. You knew where everybody stood and you knew what to expect. Not a whole lot different today really. 2014 and we're headed back to the future..
Not going to state my opinion of this book, but your post reminded me of this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Jim_Crow I never read it, just remember a professor talking about the author and talking about the book.
I'm not sure.. I didn't reference any white kid and I didn't know there were black cops in Utah. Did the black cop get a pass or was he indicted? Was he given $500K to help with his legal defense? I'm impressed that you dug deep enough to find one instance of a Black LEO killing a white kid to find equivocation with the numerous instances of White LEO's killing unarmed blacks. Kudos! This bud's for you..
He was cleared. Not sure about the money. but,if Brown really did attack and go for wilsons gun ,and Wilson and his family were subjected to an angry mob and death threats right away because of how Brown decided to conduct himself that day,i have no problem with people coming to his aid. That's not racist,THAT is justice. Not sure I should act surprised that not many know about that story though.
There's the little matter of the 500g's that Wilson got for a legal defense fund he won't need. Probably won't have to pay tax on it although it was a "gift". At any rate, the Kid on the stairwell in Brooklyn deserved to die, Sean Bell deserved to die, Garner deserved to die, Armadu Diallo deserved to die. Call it "preventative justice" if you need to give legalized murder a name since they all had police records. Welcome to the brave new world of Jim Crow II.
You are aware that many, many other people than blacks get shot by the police, right? Its only the black cases that make the news to feed the agenda. As a matter of fact,if you ask the protest movement the truth, the "lives that matter",are only the balck ones ended by white cops. Because if every life mattered, they have a lot of work to do in Chicago and Detroit.
Wont let me post links for some reason, but here in SC this year we had a 70 year old man get shot to death by a cop at a traffic stop for reaching for his cane. You want to riot and protest? Where was his?
Jim Crow didn't just affect Blacks back in the day just as it doesn't just affect Blacks today. Latinos catch it whenever the immigration debate comes up. Muslims catch it whenever some maniac blows up something. When you see crime in the media, the face is usually brown or black. When you see the truly heinous shit, the face is usually white. Here's a question for you.. Why is it that Garner died but the Colorado Movie shooter was simply arrested after killing numerous people? If he were black, there wouldn't have been enough left of him to fill a paper cup. How is it that a 12 year kid in cleveland was killed for having a toy gun but the kid that shot up the elementary school in Ct. had to kill himself? Feel free to find the equivocation in this if you can.
That really is reaching, Garner didn't deserve to die,but a s a brother of a cop I can tell you this. EVERY resist, when they are taken down, its always "the cuffs are too tight","im gonna sue,you are hurting me","I cant breathe". This time, for once the guy was telling the truth. Don't resist. Because verything other than his asthma was a typical resist take down. The kid in Cleveland went for his waste band, instead of raising his hands, the cop was there on a call for a kid with a guin in a park. What if it was a real gun,cop doesn't respond and he kills people? Im not sure about the movie theater kid,at the time of arrival was he a threat to police? The Sandy hook kid was dead before they went in. Seriously? Illegal immigration is illegal,Latinos just happen to be who border us.
it appears as if blacks are not killed at a higher rate by cops than whites when you consider the number of crimes committed by each. the numbers just don't suppprt that argument if that's what you are saying. please share details that aren't addressed if need be. other than the media said so, please share something specific to support that idea. "it's complicated" because something could be true isn't good enough.
Did James Holmes put up a fight? No, he was arrested without any struggle. The "kid" in CT (He was 20 years old) shot himself before the police ever had a chance to. Not sure what that has to do with anything. The kid in Cleveland got shot for reaching for a gun in his waistband instead of putting his hands up as the police told him. Ask any cop and they'll tell you that 10 times out of 10, that will result in you being shot. Nothing to do with race. Any other questions you'd like to be answered?
Im still confused with your logic here. Black,white,purple....its how you respond to the officer. If you submit, you will live. Brown and Garner did not do that.
He didn't resist. The 12 year old pulled the gun out of his waistband as officers arrived. Does this look like a toy gun to you? And Lanza in Ct. committed suicide right as first responders arrived, not sure how that is any kind of comparison.
As I stated before, I think in this case there was certainly enough probable cause for an indictment ... Involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment, something. I think the Grand Jury completely whiffed on this one. With that said, the black community needs to stop with these cries of racism every time a cop kills a black person. The fact is, there are more white people killed by the cops than black people. 2,151 vs 1,130 in the past decade. The difference seems to be that whites don't automatically side with the victim just because we share the same skin color. The Brown and Garner cases are two completely different scenarios, but race wasn't an issue in either incident. The issue was RESISTING ARREST. Why is this so hard for some people to comprehend? And I have to laugh at these idiots still marching with their "Hands up, don't shoot" mantra. They obviously don't let the facts get in the way of their argument. Neither one of these guys put their hands up to surrender. The irony is, they would both be alive if they actually had.
